St Mary's Church in Woodham Ferrers has recently undertaken essential restoration and preservation works as part of a National Lottery Heritage Funded restoration project. 

The second phase of this exciting project is now underway - rolling out an innovative programme of community engagement and specialist heritage projects, placing St Mary's at the heart of the community. We would love you to be part of the team

We are currently looking for Exhibition Assistants to support our fascinating new programme of exhibitions:

Doom and Discovery: Wall Paintings in the Medieval Church

War Memorials of Woodham: WW1 and WW2

Graveyard Mapping for a Digital Age

Your role would involve:

  • greeting the public during our Tuesday Open Mornings
  • keeping the exhibition tidy and organising interactive objects
  • answering questions and explaining in more detail any aspects of the exhibition that visitors are particularly interested in 

You would undertake training with one of our exhibition creators before beginning regular volunteering.

Our regular church cleaning team are also always on hand on Tuesday mornings, providing refreshments to visitors. 

Skills
  • A friendly, warm and welcoming manner is essential 
  • A willingness to take on board new information
  • Previous work in a public or people facing role would be a bonus
  • Expenses reimbursed
    Reasonable travel expenses such as bus tickets can be reimbursed. Light refreshments are available during shift times.

Availability Details

We are hoping to recruit a team of volunteers to work on a rota basis alongside our existing volunteers. We will mainly need exhibition volunteers on Tuesday mornings and on the occasional Sunday afternoon (if groups book in). The number of shifts you choose to commit to will be down to you.
