The Audience Insight Officer will support this objective through the evaluation of our Public Engagement activities and understanding of our audiences. We need to know who our current audiences are, what our audiences should look like in the future, and how they feel about our offer.

About the role:

As the Audience Insight Officer, you will be proactively managing and developing the programme of insights using various sources to evaluate Public Engagement activities and understand audiences. You will be articulating relevant findings to stakeholders across the organisation, identifying actionable insights where possible to support strategic decision-making across our Public Engagement activities.

About You:

You will have experience of designing and delivering quantitative and/or qualitative research (in-house or commissioned). You will possess strong analytical thinking and experience of using Microsoft Excel (including main summary formulas and functions). You will be confident at communicating and presenting to a range of stakeholders. Comfortable at collaborating with others but also being able to work independently, you will have excellent planning skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify opportunities and adapt to new systems or ways of working across multiple projects.

Ideally you will also have experience of summarising data using a variety of methods/software (e.g. graphing, aggregating, cross-tabulation) and producing overall conclusions using data or insights from several sources. You may also have relevant experience of evaluating audiences, services or engagement initiatives in a related context (e.g. archives/library/museum/cultural attraction/charity).

We are based in Kew, just 10 minutes’ walk from the Overground and Underground station, and have a generous benefits package, including pension, sports and social club facilities, onsite gym, discounted rates at our on-site cafe and opportunities for training and development.

This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department. A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to regularly travel to our Kew site for a minimum of 60% of their work time.

Essential criteria:

- Experience of designing and delivering quantitative and/or qualitative research (in-house or commissioned)
- In-depth experience of using Microsoft Excel and including analytical formulas and functions (e.g. pivot tables, vlookup, summary formulas)
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail whilst also being able to ‘zoom out’ to the bigger strategic picture
- Good communication skills; can clearly and effectively summarise in-depth information to a variety of stakeholders, either verbally or in writing; creating clear, well written and designed reports
- Proven ability to learn and adapt to using new systems, software or ways of working
- Ability to work independently and proactively whilst also being comfortable collaborating with others as part of a team
- Excellent planning and time-management skills, can work across multiple projects, coordinate resources and manage expectations effectively
