A secondment opportunity has arisen within the Urology Cancer Specialist Nursing Team in supporting and caring for patients with a diagnosis of Urological Cancer. This is an exciting opportunity to learn and develop new skills within the Urology Oncology specialty.


This is an exciting role and you will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to foster good working relationships, offering care in a kind and compassionate manner. The team is focused on changing services to enhance the delivery of patient care.


Applicants must be willing to undertake any training and development as required. In return we will offer you a supportive environment whereby you can develop your skills in cancer nursing.
You will be supported by highly experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists in the care and management of these patients. This will include active participation in MDT meetings, multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, inpatient reviews, including holistic needs assessments and care planning. The team is focused on changing services to enhance the delivery of patient care.

About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust:


Advise medical and nursing staff and/or prescribe medications according to patients requirements, writing a record in the medical notes and reassessing according to the individual patient needs.


Provide an effective and accessible telephone advice service for patients and families and their carers.


To participate in reviews of performance against Key Performance Indicators and co-operate in addressing areas of concern, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.


Collaborate in the development and monitoring of a job plan to ensure role and personal effectiveness.


Independently discharge patients from nurse-led clinics within agreed protocols and follow up (as per service requirement).


Participate in specialised programmes of care and ensure each patient is placed in the correct treatment pathway at the appropriate time and that necessary investigations and treatments are organised.


Recognise when the situation exceeds scope of practice, and seek appropriate senior support in a timely and effective manner, acting at all times in the best interests of the patient.


To support the nursing contribution to, and participate in Macmillan Service Reviews


To takes personal responsibility for life-long learning and personal development through clinical supervision, appraisal and Knowledge and Skills Framework and actively engages with the learning and development opportunities offered by Macmillan.
