Job Purpose:

The Data Administrator plays a pivotal role in managing and maintaining the integrity, security, and availability of organisational data assets. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that data is organised, accurate, and accessible to support business operations, decision-making, and compliance requirements. By overseeing data systems, implementing data management policies and procedures, and troubleshooting data-related issues, the Data Administrator contributes to the effective utilisation of data resources across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Management: Oversee the organisation, storage, and retrieval of data assets, ensuring they are structured, labeled, and cataloged appropriately for easy access and usability.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Monitor data quality and integrity, conducting regular audits and validation checks to identify discrepancies, errors, or inconsistencies.
  • Database Administration: Administer and maintain database systems, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, backups, and security management.
  • Data Security: Implement and enforce data security policies and procedures to safeguard sensitive information against unauthorised access, breaches, or data loss.
  • Data Governance: Develop and enforce data governance standards, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Data Privacy Compliance: Stay abreast of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and ensure that data handling practices adhere to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Data Integration: Facilitate the integration of data from disparate sources and systems, ensuring compatibility, consistency, and data integrity across platforms.
  • User Training and Support: Provide training and support to users on data management tools, systems, and best practices, empowering them to effectively utilise data resources.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Investigate and resolve data-related issues, collaborating with technical teams and vendors as needed to address system errors or performance issues.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain documentation of data management processes, procedures, and configurations, and generate regular reports on data quality, usage, and performance metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in data administration, database management, or related roles.
  • Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and data modelling concepts.
  • Strong understanding of data security principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining data accuracy and integrity.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
  • Certification in database administration, data engineeringor data management (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) is desirable but not required.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, staying updated on emerging trends and technologies in data management.
