About The Team:

School of Veterinary Medicine

The first new School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland for 150 years.

Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) has developed an innovative new School of Veterinary Medicine. We have a clear ambition to ‘promote the resilience of our graduates to sustainably support the animals and rural communities at the heart of Scotland's Natural Economy'.

Wayne Powell, SRUC Principal and CEO noted that, ‘We are an ambitious institution with a bold vision for the future. This is a ground-breaking model to expand access to educational opportunities and broaden the range of potential students who would not ordinarily be able to attend a School of Veterinary Medicine. It will also help solve existing skills shortages across Scotland'.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Technical Support Officer (Equine) to join our friendly team at Aberdeen.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will be to attend to the care of our six equines, ensuring high welfare standards are maintained at all times. There will be additional duties of welfare checks for our small herd of ruminants who also reside at Sunnybrae Farm Stables. The facility is used to support the delivery of practical teaching sessions for students undertaking courses at SRUC Craibstone.

Duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Provision of food and water
  • Health checks, grooming and application of rugs
  • Cleaning stables and field maintenance

This is a permanent, part time contract for 12 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications:

There is no formal qualification required for this role, although British Horse Society qualifications or National Certificate in Equine Studies would be desirable (SCQF Level 5). Additional training will be provided for care of ruminants if required.

For full person specification, please read the Job Particulars document.

Eligibility for Sponsorship:

This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. If you are a migrant worker you will need to ensure you have an appropriate visa to evidence the necessary right to work in the UK.
