Our Inpatient and Feeding Speech and Language Therapy Team are looking for an experienced SLT to join them . 6 whole time equivalent, band 7 fixed term (maternity cover) position.The team provides feeding and communication input to all 23 inpatient wards and 9 specialist outpatient feeding clinics. If you have postgraduate experience in the specialist assessment and management of both communication and swallowing difficulties in paediatrics as well as an enthusiasm for cutting-edge evidence-based practice, patient and family focused care, collaborative team working, quality improvement and innovation and digital transformation, we would very much like to hear from you. Great Ormond Street Hospital is a world-famous paediatric hospital which delivers tertiary and quaternary level care to children with complex and often low-incidence medical conditions, in partnership with local, national and international providers and families.


To provide a high-level specialist speech and language therapy service for in and out-patients with feeding and communication disorders arising from a wide range of rare and unusual conditions ensuring the highest standard of clinical care. This may include attendance at ward rounds, psycho-social ward meetings, case conferences, joint clinics and discharge planning meetings as necessary
Communicating effectively with the MDT within the trust and with community personnel, including paediatricians, health visitors, teachers, SENCOS and particularly the speech and language therapy profession
To function as an independent practitioner accessing the Department's supervision system, and seeking and maintaining peer support from other specialist practitioners.
To contribute to the development, service and team plans, policies and care protocol relating to the dysphagia and acute communication caseload in consultation with the Team Leader/Clinical Expert and multidisciplinary teams, using specialist knowledge.
To participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate speech and language therapy clinical training, and the teaching and training of other staff of different disciplines, in consultation with the Team Leader/Clinical Expert and Head of Speech and Language Therapy.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent
Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Health Professions Council license to practice
Advanced level dysphagia training
Training in clinical and student supervision

Accredited postgraduate courses in feeding difficulties at masters equivalent level
SLT Clinical Master's Degree

Assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of neonates and older children presenting with communication and/or feeding difficulties.
Evidence of providing SLT interventions for feeding and communication through a number of formats and experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
Experience in student clinical supervision
Experience of using informal and formal speech and language assessment and feeding techniques and tools for children across a range of age groups.
Skills in communicating outcomes of assessment and management plans to relevant internal and external professionals e.g. paediatricians, schools, speech and language therapists, play workers
Demonstrable specialist skills in the management of feeding and communication problems related to children with complex special needs
Principles of assessment and management of dysphagia in paediatrics
Sound knowledge of IT packages, including use of Microsoft Office software

Competent in the use of the videofluoroscopy swallow study in paediatric dysphagia
Formal presentation skills training
