Locum ENT Consultant Surgeon with specialist interest in Otology

This post has been created to support and develop the ENT service at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in line with the needs of the department. This will be renewable contract up to 12 months in total. The opportunity to proceed to Substantive Consultant is available, with funding secured . The successful candidate will be working as a consultant in general ENT at Homerton Hospital, in a primarily elective setting, with subspecialty interest in Otology and Balance. Post-CCT Fellowship and or Consultant level experience is desirable.
Main duties of the job The provisional timetable is equivalent to 10 programmed activities and is made up in the following schedule. The detail may be subject to change. The job plan will be reviewed at an annual job plan review within 6 to 12 months of appointment.7.5 PAs - Homerton outpatients and theatres (adult +/- paeds mix dependent on Consultant)
1 PA - Clinical admin (DCC)
0.5 PA - Governance audit, M& M meeting, MDM / network representation, training, research

The trust operates acute services from a single site: Homerton University Hospital, which opened in 1986. Based on an aggregation of ratings across all of the core services provided from the hospital, the hospital has been rated by Care Quality Commission as 'Outstanding'. Job description Job responsibilities There are outpatient and surgical services at Homerton for both adult and paediatric ENT patients. The job plan would include clinics in all these aspects, subject to agreement. The clinic templates include dedicated time for Emergency Department (ED) referrals and further urgent ENT patients are seen on an ad-hoc basis.

- FRCS (ORL-HNS) OR EQUIVALENT.
- HIGHER DEGREE - BSc MS MD PhD or EQUIVALENT.
- REGISTERED ON GMC SPECIALIST REGISTER OR WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF OBTAINING IT AT THE TIME OF THE INTERVIEW.
- NHS FELLOWSHIP OR CONSULTANT EXPERIENCE.
- SUBSPECIALIST TRAINING IN OTOLOGY.
- BROAD BASED GENERAL PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN ADULT +/- PAEDIATRIC ENT.
- POST-CCT OTOLOGY OR BALANCE FELLOWSHIP TRAINING POST.
- EXPERIENCE OF TEACHING AND TRAINING UNDERGRADUATES, POSTGRADUATES AND JUNIOR / SENIOR MEDICAL STAFF.
- TRAINING THE TRAINERS COURSE OR EQUIVALENT TEACHING QUALIFICATION.
- UNDERSTANDING THE PRINCIPLES OF CLINICAL GOVERNANCE AND ITS IMPLICATIONS.
- ABILITY TO WORK AS AN EFFECTIVE MEMBER OF A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM.
- EVIDENCE OF SERVICE AUDIT, DESIGN OR CHANGE MANAGEMENT.
- AUDITS AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT WORK.
- KNOWLEDGE OF RESEARCH METHODOLOGY.
- TRAINING IN RESEARCH METHODOLOGY.
- PUBLICATIONS IN PEER REVIEW JOURNALS. PRESENTATIONS TO LEARNED SOCIETIES.
