The Clinical Research Facility (CRF) supports the delivery of cutting edge academic and commercial clinical research studies, enabling children and young people to take part in high quality, safe and ethically approved clinical research.


The post holder will ensure high quality administrative service is provided to the WTCRF Management Team, working closely with the Senior Management Officer. This interesting and varied role will involve providing specialist research advice and support to investigators during the set-up and ongoing conduct of research studies within the facility. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate information on all research activity undertaken within the facility and producing regular reports to the WTCRF Management Team.


The post holder will play a key role in the development and maintenance of WTCRF databases and administrative systems to support the efficient running of the facility in line with current regulations. Provide information, advice and practical support to clinical investigators on study feasibility, ethical approval procedures and research governance.
Work in partnership with the WTCRF Teams and NHS Research and Development (R& D) Team to develop the services provided to clinical investigators and contribute to the planning of clinical research programmes in the facility.
Organise and coordinate meetings and training events on behalf of the WTCRF management team, organising facilities, circulating the agenda and other information in advance and writing and disseminating minutes.
To continually audit the quality of the admin team's work to ensure that Clinical Governance standards are met.
Line manage the WTCRF administrative staff undertaking clerical/secretarial functions, including conducting Personal Development Review.
To contribute to the revision of local policies and procedures in addition to their implementation. This will include contributing to the development of the CRF Operational Policy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) pertaining to administrative processes.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the WTCRF database of research projects and provide regular and ad-hoc reports on the WTCRF research portfolio.
Develop and maintain computer systems to support the process of research in the WTCRF, reviewing IT requirements regularly.

General education with GCSE qualifications preferably in English Language, Computing/IT, Maths, Science
Undergraduate qualification, or equivalent experience
Clerical/administrative experience, preferably within an NHS or university research setting
Good IT skills including competency in Microsoft Word, Access and Excel

Familiar with research practices
Experience in clinical trials/public health research administration
Knowledge of the EU Clinical Trials Directive, Good Clinical Practice and research governance
Familiar with clinical data and medical terminology

Flexible approach
Database and spreadsheet competency
Report writing

Knowledge of statistical research methods
Data manipulation using queries and simple formula
