Job Title: Youth Conference Coordinator

Duration: 12 months

Rate of Pay: £15.21 per hour

Start Date: ASAP – Must be fully registered to start

Location: Enniskillen

Hours: Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm with some evening work, which may be offset by Time off in lieu

Main Duties Include:

  • Policy Adherence: Operate within the policies and guidelines of the Youth Justice Agency as directed by YJA Middle and Senior Management.
  • Youth Support: Support and challenge young people aged 10-17 who are within, or on the fringes of, the Criminal Justice System to desist from offending and improve their life chances.
  • Assessment and Intervention: Undertake a range of assessments, including the Youth Justice Agency Assessment and others, to inform the development of holistic and tailor-made intervention plans. These plans will address assessed needs, risks, and vulnerabilities as they impact on offending behavior.
  • Reporting: Provide high-quality oral and written reports to expedite speedy justice with Courts and the Public Prosecution Service.
  • Case Conferences: Participate in and prepare reports for case conferences, reviews, and any other meetings relevant to the young person.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain timely and accurate written and electronic records in accordance with YJA case recording policy.
  • Court Orders and Plans: Oversee, supervise, and manage Court Orders, Public Prosecution Service Plans, and voluntary (Earlier Stage Intervention) arrangements.
  • Restorative Justice: Conduct Youth Conferences to ensure that restorative interventions are at the heart of all intervention plans, taking into account the views of victims where appropriate.
  • Victim Engagement: Work closely with victims to ensure their views are heard and that they are fully engaged with the process if they wish to be.
  • Plan Development: Ensure all intervention plans with young people are informed by appropriate assessments and the outcomes of the Youth Conference, and that these interventions are based on regular planning, reviewing, and progress evaluation.
  • Partnerships: Work in partnership with young people, families/carers, communities, and professional bodies to support positive behavior change and reduce offending.
  • Family Interventions: Negotiate appropriate interventions with families to address assessed risk areas for the young person.
  • Community Networks: Establish multi-agency and community networks and support to deliver interventions in partnership and ensure the reintegration of young people in the criminal justice system.
  • Youth Engagement Clinics: Facilitate Youth Engagement Clinics in partnership with the Police Service for Northern Ireland and the Public Prosecution Service to ensure suitable young people are exited from the Criminal Justice System at the earliest opportunity.
  • Community Programs: Deliver Community Resolution Notice programs to young people referred directly by the Police Service for Northern Ireland.
  • Reparative Activities: Source, risk assess, and manage appropriate and meaningful Reparative Activity placements to fulfill Service in the Community requirements.
  • Training and Support: Participate in the training and support of volunteers, Social Work & Youth Work students, and sessional workers.
  • Options for Sentences: Offer meaningful and realistic options for those delivering sentences.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in supervision, team meetings, training, and staff development programs.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the post.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree level in Social Work or Degree in Youth and Community qualification required
  • Successful candidates will be subject to Access NI check at the time of application

Desirable Criteria:

  • Preferred knowledge of working with young people in a justice context
