Acting Head of School – Secondment Opportunity
The Governing Body of Drighlington Primary school is looking to appoint an Acting Head of School to work alongside our experienced Executive Headteacher and supportive Governing Body, from September 2024 for one year. This is an excellent professional development opportunity for an individual with a track record of successful senior leadership experience working towards headship. Working with others you will be responsible for evaluating the schools performance to identify priorities for continuous improvement and raising standards.
Situated on the border between Leeds, Bradford & Kirklees, Drighlington Primary School is a friendly, inclusive school of over 400 children where the values and ethos of a high level of care for every individual underpin our daily work. The Head of School should establish a culture that promotes excellence, equality and high expectations of all pupils. Ensure that the school is managed and effectively organised on a day-to- day basis and help ensure the school is led effectively at a strategic level.
The Head of School, working with others, is responsible for evaluating the school’s performance to identify the priorities for continuous improvement and raising standards.
The appointment is subject to the current conditions of employment for Deputy Headteachers contained in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document, the 1998 School Standards and Framework Act, the required standards for Qualified Teacher Status and other current legislation.
Effectively complete the requirements for performance management of staff
Works with individual staff and teams to translate the school vision into agreed objectives, ensuring that the schools planning, policies and procedures promote and sustain school improvement.
Ensure that learning is at the centre of strategic planning and resource management.
Analyse and interprets school data to inform classroom practice across the school.
Significant consideration of Pupil Premium: working alongside Executive Headteacher, oversee investment, provisions and outcomes.
Ensure efficient and effective feedback, all feedback and marking to pupils is in line with Marking Policy.
Ensure staff have access to high-quality, sustained professional development opportunities, aligned to balance the priorities of whole-school improvement, team and individual needs.
Ensure effective planning, allocation, support and evaluation of work undertaken by teams and individuals, including clear delegation of tasks and devolution of responsibilities.
Develops and maintains effective strategies and procedures for staff induction, professional development and performance review.
Give and accept support from colleagues, governors and the local authority.
Have regard for the well-being of themselves and others, managing own workload to promote a healthy work-life balance and encouraging and enabling other likewise.
In partnership with the Executive Headteacher manage the school financial and human resources effectively and efficiently to achieve the school’s educational goals and priorities.
Implements evidence-based school development plans and policies for the organisation and its facilities.
Ensures that policies and practices take account of national and local policies and initiatives.
Implement successful performance management processes with all staff.
Ensure high standards of pupil behaviour and courteous conduct in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy

Carry out and ensure other leaders carry out planned monitoring activities including learning walks, lesson observations, book scrutinies and pupil learning conversations.
Develop and present a coherent, understandable and accurate account of the school’s performance to a range of audiences including governors, parents and carers and local authority representatives.
Ensure the school effectively and efficiently operates within the required regulatory frameworks and meets all statutory duties.
Strengthening the community
Works with other agencies to ensure learning experiences and opportunities for pupils are integrated into the wider community.
In partnership with the Executive Headteacher, the Head of School is responsible for the vision of the school to the local and wider community and beyond.
Builds the reputation of the school with the outside community.
Ensure the school works effectively in partnership with parents, carers and professionals,identify the additional needs and special educational needs and disabilitiesof pupils, providing support and adaptation where appropriate
Creates and maintains partnerships with parents and carers to support and improve pupils’ achievement and personal development.
Seek opportunities to invite stakeholders (parents, carers, community figures, businesses and other organisations) into the school to enhance and enrich the school and its pupils and their value to the wider community.
Child protection
Ensure that the child protection policies and procedures adopted by the governing body are fully implemented and followed by all staff.
Ensure that sufficient resources and time are allocated to enable staff to discharge their child protection related responsibilities effectively.
Ensure the protection and safety of pupils and staff through effective approaches to safeguarding, as part of the duty of care and as the Designated Safeguarding Leadfulfil the statutory duties as defined in KCSIE 2023.
Knowledge of how to use data to monitor pupil progress to identify effective interventions to ensure pupils maintain achieve high standards.
Regularly reviews own practice and continually participates in quality CPD.
Ability to manage own workload to promote healthy work-life balance.
Ability to implement successful performance management processes with all staff.
Holds people to account for what they have agreed to deliver.
Provides performance data to parents, governors and school improvement officers.
Ability to ensure high standards of pupil behaviour.
Strengthening the Community
Builds relationships with community groups, outside agencies and other schools which create innovative learning experiences for pupils
Works with parents and carers to improve pupil achievement.
Builds the reputation of the school within outside communities.
