AECOM's Energy Business Unit houses three specialised practices - nuclear, renewables, and transmission & distribution. Each practice plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy, offering innovative solutions that balance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
We have a tremendously challenging programme in front of us in the run up to achieving 2030 net zero targets. New overhead lines, underground cables, substations, battery storage and subsea links are all needed - and quickly. AECOM Transmission and Distribution is currently supporting the network development which will underpin grid modernisation. Our T&D team across the UK & Ireland collaborate primarily based in Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Manchester and Newcastle, with additional team members working across our other offices including Belfast and Dublin.
AECOM is seeking a Senior Offshore Electrical HVAC/HVDC Cable Engineer to join our Cable team in the UK and Ireland Transmission and Distribution practice.
We will consider hybrid working arrangements.
The primary objective of this role is to assist the team in the development and delivery of cable systems activities.
Typical cable systems design activities (related to T&D projects) include:

HVDC/HVAC cable calculations including develop cable burial route risk assessments, landfall, and cable protection systems for offshore, subsea applications.
Gathering and correlating engineering data using established and well-defined procedures, and generating detailed cable reports.
Developing detailed offshore routine engineering assignments involving HVAC/HVDC, IAC and export cable design, for both static and dynamic systems.
Reviewing and optimising design, routing, installation, commissioning and de-commissioning solutions.
For the following types of projects:

HVAC Interconnectors
HVAC and HVDC Offshore Windfarm projects
Independently perform the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works to standard and compliant regulations.
Coordinate across project disciplines, external subcontractors and remote offices such that technical risks are identified and mitigated, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
An electrical/electronic/power engineering or similar qualification, such as an HNC, HND, BSc/BEng and/or an MSc/MEng.
Professionally qualified in Electrical Engineering (CEng or working towards chartership).
This role requires the ability to implement software tools to provide desktop studies and generate reports, using Cymcap, Cableizer, COMSOL software as an example.
Understanding of HVAC and HVDC transmission principles and requirements management
Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution.
