You can be based in any of our locations in the UK and Ireland which includes Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, and St Albans.

We will consider hybrid working arrangements.

What your role could entail:

We are seeking a Principal HVDC Engineer to join our HVDC team in the UK and Ireland Transmission and Distribution department.

The primary objective of this role is to lead the development and delivery of HVDC and FACTS activities.

You’ll be expected to provide technical expertise for bids and proposals and to represent the company in client meetings as appropriate.

Typical HVDC and FACTS activities include:

  • Feasibility Studies
  • Optioneering Studies
  • Specification preparation
  • Technical Bid Review
  • Design Assurance
  • Design Review
  • Site and FAT visits
  • OEM Support Services
  • Site pre-commissioning and commissioning oversight supervision
  • Due Diligence
  • Technical expert services
  • Some original design work may also be involved.

You will assist in developing the HVDC and FACTS team and may have line management responsibility for those staff.


Qualifications

Here’s what we will need from you:

  • Typically around 15+ years relevant experience.
  • An electrical/electronic/power engineering or similar qualification such as an HNC, HND, BSc/BEng and/or an MSc/MEng.
  • Professionally qualified in Electrical Engineering (CEng or working towards)
  • Demonstrate a significant knowledge of HVDC technology along with a grounding in general power systems engineering
  • Experienced coordinating across project disciplines, external subcontractors and remote offices such that technical risks are identified and mitigated, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experienced in creating and presenting technical reports; and responding to clients’ technical questions
  • Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers and develop client relationships
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and requirements management
  • Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems
  • Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution
  • Prepared to take part in working groups such as CIGRE, IET and other professional bodies
  • Demonstrate an understanding of HVDC scheme design and system studies.
