To provide a comprehensive CCTV / Imagery Service to Serious and Complex Crime Investigations, to assist investigating officers and other external agencies in the prevention and detection of crime.

Key responsibilities

  • To provide a complete video editing service, including edited sequences, still images and video enhancement, to the highest standard, to assist investigating officers within the WMP and other specific external agencies including Barristers/ CPS
  • Provide training to WMP staff on all aspects of CCTV video compilation/enhancement techniques
  • Undertake research and development of new and existing systems for use
    within the CCTV arena
  • Evaluate media and imagery prior to the employment of external agencies
  • Attend and if necessary, give evidence in court, including the installation and operation of video viewing equipment within the courtroom
  • Maintain department equipment - e.g., PCs - carrying out minor servicing and repairs
  • Keep abreast of current legislation and working practices
  • Maintain appropriate records and filing systems to ensure integrity and
    continuity of evidence
  • To support and work towards the development of within a Quality Management System and fully understand the requirements and benefits of Forensic Regulation and accreditation
  • To perform internal audits as required in line with Quality Management
  • To assist with the development of analytical graphic packages and to seek out opportunities for future technological advancements.
Knowledge and skills

Essential Requirements
  • Degree in a relevant technical discipline and/ or significant relevant experience (must be evidenced)
  • Understanding of the principles of evidence handling, forensic quality standards and the presentation of evidence at court.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Proven working knowledge of video & audio editing/enhancement techniques
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and findings to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent attention to detail, concentration, and work ethic
Desirable Requirements
  • An understanding of video comparison identification and recognition procedures/protocols
  • A basic understanding of native CCTV systems / players / filesystems
  • Proven experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Ideally completed a nationally recognised investigation training course
  • Experience of serious / complex crime investigations
  • Experience with Adobe Suite, mainly After Effects, Premiere, and Photoshop
  • Experience with using FFMPEG for video and audio editing
  • Be conversant with the ISO 17025 standard and ACPO Principles of Digital Evidence
  • Good IT skills and experience in the use of & installation of software and hardware
  • A proven understanding of computer programming languages such as Python, Java, C++ etc.
The post holder will:
  • Be required to work a shift system, covering the hours of between 07.00 -18.00 Monday to Friday.
  • Be required to attend and pass appropriate training courses as and when required in order to develop the individual and the team
  • Be expected to comply with Health and Safety at Work Act, Fire Prevention Regulations and COSHH Regulations at all times
Vetting - Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical - Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
