**The Role**

West Midlands Police are seeking an experienced Digital Forensic Imaging and Reconstruction Officer to join an established Forensic Services department in Birmingham on a full-time permanent basis.

As the Digital Forensic Imaging and Reconstruction Officer you will provide a professional, efficient and effective Crime Scene Reconstruction, court presentation and analytical comparison/enhancement provision to the West Midlands Police, Criminal Justice System and external agencies. You will ensure that the requirements of Forensic Services Quality Management system for facial Digital Imaging and Reconstruction are met and represent West Midlands Police and the forensic profession by delivering expert opinion and interpretation to assist with the Criminal Justice System. The role is critical in providing 2D/3D reconstruction/graphics for court to depict the severity of crime scenes and help the jury understand what has happened within a major investigation, protecting juries from seeing sensitive/graphic imagery.

**Main Responsibilites of the role**
- Deliver a comparison service to investigation teams and the judicial system along with agreed CCTV comparison strategies and case management negotiated with the CJS. You will manage and organise casework in accordance with service level agreements and operational demands
- Use training, experience and expert judgements to analyse, compare and evaluate images/videos by using professional judgment to determine the quality of an image and the most effective method of processing case material to support an investigation.
- Attend crime scenes to produce 3D reconstructions and 2D plans of incidents and locations
- Utilise appropriate software to replicate injuries from photographs onto a manikin for the purpose of image sterilisation & Produce animations and informative/interactive presentations/graphics of major crime scene locations and evidence
- Interview victims, witnesses or others using specialist software to obtain information relating to suspects involved in crime or persons of interest to create a facial composite (EFIT).
- Provide accurate and detailed notes describing observations and interpretations of image analysis and facial comparison. Provide and articulate a rationale for personal opinions.
- Communicate and advise investigating officers within the WMP and other specific external agencies including the CPS on differing technical methods to achieve and deliver best evidence to set timescales.
- Manage forensic exhibits to ensure continuity, confidentiality and security is maintained at all times; with the use of Police systems;
- Understand and follow Digital Forensic good practice methodologies (ISO17025 standard/Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice and ACPO Principles of Digital Evidence)
- Ensure compliance with Force and departmental policies and procedures including developing and maintaining the roles Quality Management System requirements.
- Maintain accurate records for all cases worked on, ensuring that all relevant information is entered in a timely and accurate manner. Produce Witness Statements and attend court to give evidence as required
- Carry out any duties commensurate with the purpose of the post that may from time to time be determined.

**Knowledge & Experience (including qualifications)**

**Essential**
- Experience within a Forensic discipline and/or relevant education discipline.
- Have a strong awareness of facial identification methods other than facial comparison, such as human visual recognition and automated facial recognition.
- Have knowledge of facial anatomy, image processing and analysis and the comparison and evaluation of facial images
- Be current in their knowledge of internal and external developments within the field of facial identification
- Experience in one or more of: 2D/3D modelling. 2D/3D reconstruction, Bodymapping, Courtroom presentation of Evidence Packages, Video Enhancement, EFIT, Comparision or graphical design
- Understanding of the use of laser scanners within a crime scene environment
- Understanding of image sterilisation process for bodymapping processes
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Possess good communication skills (both verbal and written);
- Be enthusiastic, hardworking and flexible
- Experience in using software to process and edit footage;
- A passion for developing technologies used in imagery devices.
- Proven technical expertise/experience in the use of computer software and hardware
