Job Description

Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Communications Officer for an initial 3 month contract with potential to extend on a rate of £18.07/hour PAYE. The working hours are 35 hours per week – 9am-5pm. This role will be hybrid working - minimum of 2 days in the office per week.

Responsibilities:

- Source and produce high-quality and engaging communications content (text, image and video) for organisational news, social media, newsletters and SharePoint.

- Ensure all communications are consistent and in line with audience expectations, organisation’s editorial style and tone, key messaging and brand guidelines.

- Support the continuous enhancement of the organisation’s internal communications to improve experience, including but not limited to co-ordination of e-screens, notice-boards, display cabinets and newsletters.

- Monitor performance of all communications in line with the communications plan, maintain an up-to-date knowledge of latest trends in social media, online and digital communications; and suggest recommendations for improvements.

- Attend relevant meetings including with the Press Office and Research Colleagues.

- Other relevant duties as may be assigned from time-to-time by the Line Manager or the Director of Professional Services.

Essential Skills:

- Educated to at least Higher, SVQ 2/3, National Certificate or equivalent level, with minimum 2 years’ relevant work experience

- Excellent levels of competency in written and spoken English, with excellent copywriting and proofing skills

- Proven communication skills, both for online and printed media

- Experience in coordinating and planning video content and using image editing software

- Experience of planning delivering and monitoring communications via a range of media with the aim of highlighting impact and fostering a sense of community

- Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaborative working and relationship building

- Organisational skills and ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines whilst still playing close attention to detail

- IT skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, website content management systems, social media, Google Analytics and electronic communications tools such as DotDigital

Desirable Skills:

- Experience of communications within an Engineering or STEM related field

- Experience of working with external agencies

- Some experience in evaluation and reporting of communication campaigns and activities

- Experience of using Canva design software and Hootsuite social media planning and monitoring software (or similar)

- Understanding of legal issues such as consumer law, GDPR and copyright
