We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Scientist to lead our research and development efforts in Biotechnology. The Principal Scientist will be responsible for designing and executing research projects, analysing data, and providing scientific expertise and leadership to the research team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in virology, a track record of successful research projects, and the ability to drive innovation and scientific excellence.
Research and Development:
Lead and oversee research projects in molecular biology, from conceptualisation to execution and completion.
Design and develop experimental protocols and methodologies to address research objectives and hypotheses.
Develop plans, analyse data, and interpret results to generate actionable insights and scientific discoveries.
Technology development road mapping for advancement of molecular biology pipeline.
Develop experiment plans, timelines, and milestones, and ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets.
Monitor progress, identify risks and challenges, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project execution.
Communicate project updates, findings, and outcomes to stakeholders, including senior management and external partners.
Scientific Leadership:
Provide scientific guidance, mentorship, and technical support to the existing team of scientists and research staff.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including researchers, engineers, and project managers, to achieve research goals and objectives.
Stay abreast of advancements in molecular biology, sequencing, and bioinformatics to identify emerging trends and technologies, and assess their potential impact on research initiatives.
Attend conferences and networking events to build strong relationships within the fields relevant to the business.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Review experimental reports to assimilate experimental data to inform future experiments, plans, and capabilities.
Prepare and present research findings, reports, and scientific publications for internal review, conferences, and external stakeholder presentations and reports.
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of research data and documentation.
Laboratory Supervision:
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and ethical guidelines relevant to research activities.
Participate in regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections as needed, providing scientific expertise and documentation support.
Overall responsibility for laboratory safety and operations.
PhD in biology or related scientific discipline.
Proven track record of scientific research and publications.
Extensive experience in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation.
Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive research initiatives to completion.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment, adapting to changing priorities and timelines.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards applicable to scientific research, such as Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP), is desirable.
Ability to work from own initiative and operate independently, actively circulating information relating to research, and offering resolutions for ongoing projects.
Experience in managing a research team within a Biotechnology laboratory.
Experience working with medical devices.
Experience in writing bids and applying for funding that is relevant to the project/business and compiling the associated documentation.
