Job Description:

ABOUT THE FIRM

Secretariat professionals are trusted in the highest-stakes legal, risk, and regulatory matters around the world.

When you join Secretariat, you become part of a rapidly growing elite team of bright minds and passionate problem-solvers. Your skills and expertise will be utilized on day one – working with the world’s most renowned law firms, leading corporations, and influential institutions to answer complex questions that shape critical financial, economic, and strategic business decisions.

Our globally integrated teams are united by the ambition, energy, and commitment they bring to every challenge. We inspire and empower an open, collaborative culture that embraces ongoing professional development, recognition, diversity, and – most importantly – you.

Make your impact at Secretariat.

ABOUT THE INVESTIGATIONS & COMPLIANCE TEAM

As part of our expanding Investigations & Compliance team, you will work at the forefront of today’s most complex business challenges. Our highly accomplished expert team includes forensic accountants, certified fraud examiners, digital forensic specialists, big data experts, and former regulators – all working in concert to provide the investigative, business intelligence, and regulatory compliance solutions that address today’s most daunting business threats.

We are looking for a Manager to join our London Investigations practice. The Global Investigations practice supports clients through the end-to-end prevention, detection, investigation, and remediation of some of the most complex business threats. As part of the team, you will be engaged in undertaking investigations, capturing intelligence, analysing disaggregated information, compiling evidential material, and communicating findings to project leads.

The Manager role is a multi-faceted role that incorporates the granular aspects of larger assignments, the oversight and client deliverables of smaller assignments, as well as the ongoing development of your technical and commercial faculties.

Ideally you will have experience of working internationally, including emerging and frontier markets, and will bring an understanding of the nuances and cultural awareness required to operate, and lead, on the ground when necessary.

Responsibilities

Amongst other tasks, you will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of both the technical (methodology) and strategic (client objectives) elements of the assignment.
  • Identify different sources of information – both from within the client and from open-sources – that would advance the current level of understanding.
  • Conduct robust analysis of information gathered from a range of sources to generate relevant findings and identify next steps and/or further information requirements to progress the current level of understanding.
  • Present the findings from the analysis in an appropriate, clear, and concise format suitable for both internal and client/adviser audiences.
  • Participate in the planning, preparing, and conducting of fact-finding and interrogative interviews.
  • Coordinate tasks with colleagues and contractors around the world to ensure the efficient and effective progression of tasks.
  • Constructively review the output of junior colleagues and contractors and provide feedback to ensure that tasks are of the required high quality.
  • Engage and coordinate input to assignments from external contractors including the administrative aspects of these resources.
  • Participate in business development by identifying potential new clients and business leads, as well as developing your own professional network through attendance at relevant client events.
  • Engage in marketing activities including the drafting of articles, participation in webinars/seminars, and supporting and promoting Secretariat events.
  • Prepare, and present as part of a team, pitches, and commercial/technical proposals for prospective clients.
  • Demonstrate appropriate judgment when considering risks – both to the client and to Secretariat – arising from the assignment. This includes ensuring compliance with internal risk processes and policies throughout the assignment.
  • Identify opportunities for self-development including your technical and commercial skills. This may include seminars, webinars, conferences, formal training courses, and other avenues of professional development.

Requirements/qualifications/experience

  • Strong academic background
  • Qualified ACA/ACCA or equivalent international accountancy qualification would be preferred but is not essential.
  • Experience within an investigation practice, ideally with part of that experience spent within a consulting firm. That experience should include investigations of the following themes: fraud, asset misappropriation, bribery and corruption, IP theft, financial misreporting, undisclosed relationships, and asset/individual tracing.
  • The desire to develop a network of contacts in law firms and/or corporates, financial institutions, PE houses, and other potential work providers.
  • Strong verbal communication and report writing skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem resolution abilities with a particular eye for detail.
  • Additional languages would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • An awareness of, and the wherewithal to flag, the inherent risks of collating and analysing information from a diverse range of sources.
  • The ability to work independently yet with an awareness of issues and risks that need to be highlighted to senior staff.
  • The ability to manage and prioritise your time, potentially against a backdrop of competing deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to travel.
  • The desire to join in with, and/or lead, auxiliary tasks associated with a growing practice within a rapidly growing firm.

Secretariat is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
