A day in this role looks like….

As a Waking Night Support Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Elms Lane Accommodation Based Service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are: 9 male service users who may have mental health issues, substance and alcohol misuse and other complex support needs. You will be part of a wider team consisting of a service manager and other support workers to provide a high standard of delivery of service providing care and support.

  • To support service users' in crises and ensure they are given the appropriate help and support
  • Collaboration with the development team in tendering for new services and in the retention of existing services
  • To provide basic first contact advice and security to clients and to contact the On Call manager/emergency services if appropriate
  • To ensure a safe and secure environment & maintain high standards within the project by logging and recording any maintenance issues in accordance with procedures and assisting with the maintenance of the building, furniture and fittings as appropriate
  • To ensure the security of the building through regular Health and Safety checks, the monitoring of emergency alarm system and the monitoring of the CCTV and regular patrols throughout the building
  • To deal with emergency situations, taking action in the event of a fire or other incident and being responsible for calling emergency services in an appropriate manner
  • To keep appropriate records of all work and activities within the project in accordance with procedures
  • To carry out the nightly duties on the cleaning rota within the building.
  • To ensure the smooth running of the building; implementing rules, policies and procedures as required
  • To access appropriate management and off site support as appropriate to manage situations as they arise
  • To treat clients with dignity and respect in a calm and objective way, when dealing with difficult or problematic situations
  • To answer out of hours telephone enquiries from service users within the project– offering general support and access to emergency services if required

  • Experience in providing positive customer service
  • A good understanding of Health & Safety within a Registered Care Home
  • Some knowledge of housing management including maintenance & repairs
  • Ability to monitor and maintain the safety and security of a Registered Care Home
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs
  • A good knowledge of, issues related to signs, symptoms and treatments of mental illness; ability to assess service users declining mental health and take appropriate action
  • Understanding of, and the ability to implement good Equality & Diversity practice
  • Previous experience of using computer-based systems to accurately record work and client details
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately
