ASSISTANT WAREHOUSE MANAGER

Established in 1997 as the first manufacturer of sushi for the UK supermarket industry, Taiko has evolved into the most innovative manufacturer of Sushi, Food To Go, Prepared Meals and Snacking products in the UK, supplying Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury’s to name a few. Over the past 25 years Taiko has launched more first to market Sushi and Food to Go products than any other sushi manufacturer in the UK.

The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for supporting the efficient and effective operation of the warehouse. This role involves overseeing the receipt, storage, and distribution of raw materials and finished goods. The Assistant Warehouse Manager works closely with the Warehouse Manager to ensure that all warehouse activities align with safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and coordinate with relevant departments to reconcile discrepancies.
  • Supporting weekly and monthly stock taking audit and compare the data in Navision for any discrepancies and investigate accordingly.

Order Fulfilment:

  • Supervise the picking and packing processes of the warehouse team to ensure accurate and timely order fulfilment including any additional orders from the production.
  • Responsible for checking the quantities against the planner to avoid transferring incorrect quantities which has adverse effect on the efficiency of the production.
  • Collaborate with the production team to prioritise orders based on production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Responsible for transferring quality products to production as per Taiko Product quality standards and follow up with any product quality issues to production team, Warehouse Manager and supervisors and ensure product is on hold for any transfer.

Shipping and Receiving:

  • Oversee the receiving of raw materials and packaging, ensuring accurate documentation and inspection of incoming goods.
  • Responsible in ensuring that the goods-in procedure is observed when the warehouse team receives any goods into Warehouse.
  • Coordinate outbound shipments, including proper packaging, labelling, and documentation.
  • Assist in arranging stock transfer from third party warehouse in Purchasing and Warehouse department in Manager’s absence.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure that all products leaving the warehouse meet established quality standards.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to address any quality issues and implement corrective actions.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Maintain a safe and organized warehouse environment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Train and enforce safety protocols for warehouse staff.
  • Responsible for providing refresher training to all team members or retrain any individual to ensure team follows the correct company procedures all the time.
  • Responsible for providing training on Navision and Traceability if requested by Warehouse manager.
  • Responsible for monitoring traceability through Navision and ensure the Warehouse team is following the correct procedure.
  • Responsible in ensuring that Warehouse team follow all the company rules and procedures.
  • Responsible in ensuring that Warehouse, picking room, vegetable chiller and fish freezer are kept tidy at all the times.
  • Responsible in ensuring that all the warehouse paperwork is completed accurately in timely manner.
  • Responsible for conducting the daily check of forklifts in supervisor’s absence.

Team Management:

  • Assist Warehouse Manager in managing the warehouse staff in the recruitment, training, absence management, development of warehouse personnel and ensuring duties are completed on time and resolve any issues caused by staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring all staff have provided relevant training and necessary equipment to perform their role.
  • Provide leadership and support to the warehouse team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Assist Supervisor and Warehouse manager to manage and supervise the team.
  • Responsible for assigning job duties on daily basis to staff to reduce the overtime and improve the Warehouse efficiency to support Warehouse Manager.
  • Assist the team as and when requested.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains within the warehouse.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices and optimize warehouse operations.

Communication:

  • Liaise with other departments, including production, logistics, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless coordination and communication.
  • Keep the Warehouse Manager informed of any issues or challenges in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for reporting any warehouse related issues or concerns to Warehouse manager.
  • Supporting supervisor and warehouse manager in checking the invoices and daily recording for the approval as per the request.
  • Any ad-hoc duties requested by Warehouse Manager.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in warehouse management, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality control processes.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in using warehouse management systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self-starter, proactive and able to solve complex issues.
  • Internal audit experience.
  • Experience in managing a team is a plus.
  • High level of reliability and flexibility is required
  • Driven and dynamic individual with strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Good understanding of HACCP & CCP principles and practice
  • Good understanding of the Code of Practice, Technical Requirement including BRC Standard
  • Good understanding of the operation and products
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Culture
