The COO will lead operations and technology infrastructure and will lead on the build out, testing and launch of the bank's new digital proposition.


The COO will have significant responsibilities in managing operational risk, operational resilience, various strategic change initiatives and service delivery. This role requires a strategic visionary with a deep understanding of retail and commercial banking. They must balance the hands-on detailed understanding of banking systems, cards, payments and digital channels with strategic insight, a great capacity for change, pressure and delivery.


Key Responsibilities:


Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the overall operational and technological strategy for the Bank, ensuring alignment with the bank's and group’s broader strategic goals.
  • Identify and capitalise on opportunities to continually differentiate the Bank from traditional banks and neo banks through innovative digital solutions.
  • Ensure that all regulatory requirements are met and technology is used not only to excel in the client experience but also in our management of risk and compliance.


Transformation

  • Lead the Core Banking System Replacement Project including management of vendor relationships and delivery, stakeholders within the UK and Group level.
  • Work closely with the Executive Committee (ExCo) and key Group stakeholders in the design and implementation of the optimum target operating model in support of the 5-year strategic plan, including: 1) Target operational efficiency, end to end across the business; 2) Lead and deliver key workstreams in a timely and cost-efficient manner; 3) Establish measurable goals and KPI's to track progress through the transformation.


Team Coordination and Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate the efforts of direct reports to ensure cohesive strategy execution. Hire great people and get the best out of current staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the Operations and IT teams.


Operational Resilience

  • Ensure the effective implementation of the Operational Resilience Policy so as to ensure that the bank has robust processes and procedures in place to deal with any major operational disruption.
  • Develop, implement, and periodically test the bank’s business continuity, contingency funding and recovery & resolution plans (including SCV). Review and update plans and ensure staff are fully informed of these plans and their specific responsibilities.
  • Serve as the accountable executive for information security services currently outsourced to the Group's, Cybersecurity & Information Security Division.


Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure that all regulatory reporting requirements in your area of responsibility are fully understood and delivered on time.
  • Promote and maintain a culture and environment that will facilitate the realisation of the Bank’s strategy, ensuring that high standards of corporate governance, financial and risk management and control are always observed.
  • Comply with the Bank’s Conduct rules, as prescribed by the PRA and FCA including the most recent sixth conduct rule; “you must act to deliver good outcomes for retail customers”.
  • Maintain ‘Fit & Proper’ status required to fulfil role as a Senior Manager/Certification employee (if relevant).
  • Comply with all relevant regulations as prescribed by the PRA and FCA including your role under the Bank’s undertaking to Operational Resilience.


Engagement

  • Work closely with other ExCo members to ensure alignment and integration across the bank’s strategic initiatives.
  • Engage with colleagues in head office to ensure seamless product development and operational delivery.
