Are you passionate about leading communication and engagement activities? Do you have a knack for nurturing relationships with key stakeholders? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you as an External Affairs Manager with our client in the utilities industry


As the External Affairs Manager, you will play a vital role in overseeing and delivering engagement activities on capital projects. You will collaborate closely with the project team, comms agency, and key stakeholders to ensure compliance with government legislation, while also protecting and enhancing our client's reputation. This is your chance to make a difference by using your strategic advice to guide project decisions and align them with the broader programme deliverables.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing engagement activities to deliver a first-class experience for stakeholders.
  • Providing strategic advice to the project team, considering the impact on our client's reputation.
  • Managing Community Relations Agencies, including financials and performance.
  • Developing consultation strategies and resources to engage with external stakeholders.
  • Representing our client in engagement activities with MPs, elected members, and parish councils.
  • Acting as a media spokesperson for projects when needed.
  • Staying current on the external environment to positively impact our client.


To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Proven experience in leading and managing stakeholder engagement and communications teams.
  • The ability to conduct hostile media interviews and defend controversial construction schemes.
  • A track record of influencing key external stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of planning, energy project development, and construction.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to write for different audiences.
  • Experience in contracting strategies and procurement.
  • Understanding of RIIO mechanisms and revenue delivery.


Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Qualification and professional membership in town planning or related discipline (desirable).
