The service you will work in….

The Hillingdon Crisis cove provides one-to-one emotional support and signposting to individuals experiencing some form of mental health crisis that live in or have a GP in the Hillingdon Borough. The service also runs group activities to increase peer support and reduce isolation.

A day in this role looks like….

As a recovery worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our cove. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • To provide emotional support, active listening, one-to-one support plans, and discuss coping strategies and provide signposting to support individuals in mental health distress.
  • To clearly articulate the aims and objectives, pathway and service model to people using the service so they can fully participate in and co-produce their support.
  • Empower service users to engage effectively in their liaisons with professionals within the community such as community mental health teams, social work teams, housing providers, health professionals, Job Centre Plus etc.
  • Work flexibly as part of a team to ensure service coverage and that contractual obligations are met.
  • Develop co-produced group activities, peer support networks and other community-based approaches to empowering service users to achieve their goals and aspirations and to encourage service users to access these opportunities.
  • Actively monitor the health, wellbeing, safety and security of the service and its users ensuring all concerns are followed up promptly and in line with procedures.
  • Participate in the core work of the service, providing support to colleagues, carrying out tasks allocated by the service manager and using initiative to identify and deal with additional tasks as they arise.
  • Ensure that administration is done in good time; that detailed, concise and accurate records are created contemporaneously and that confidentiality is appropriately maintained.
  • Assist the manager to manage health and safety, repairs and maintenance of the premises.
  • Provide support the Service Manager and Recovery Workers to manage voids across the service.
  • Ensure referrals, assessments and service reviews are effective and timely.
  • Assist the Service Manager and Recovery Workers to plan, negotiate and manage budgets and to make best use of property, equipment and information technology.
  • To work flexibly as part of the team to ensure service coverage and that contractual obligations are met, including being part of the senior team duty rota.

We are looking for candidates who bring a combination of passion, expertise, and dedication to the table. To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health and/or dual diagnosis issues.

  • Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions including crisis management, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect.

  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation i.e. Care Program Approach (CPA) processes.
  • Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work with statutory services i.e. NHS at the front line
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Ability to work Monday to Sunday 14:00 to 22:00 including working bank holidays.
  • Good IT skills that including a working knowledge of functions in MS Word, Outlook and the internet.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, able to produce clear written correspondence in hard copy or email.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately.
