South West England, United Kingdom Humankind Full time
Job Details

When you choose to join us, youre choosing more than just a job. youre choosing to make a difference.

About the role
You will work with the Exeter STaR (System Treatment and Recovery) team on a project delivering intensive and holistic support to individuals experiencing addiction and homelessness. The STaR project is a really exciting opportunity to deliver the type of intensive support that our clients with complex problems deserve.

As a member of the STaR team you will have the time and space to establish strong therapeutic relationships with your caseload of clients, you will work closely with the projects GP and Clinical Psychologist so you can support the client to address the sorts of physical and mental health challenges that often get in the way of peoples recovery. You will have access to personal budgets that can be used by you and your clients to rediscover fun in clients lives. You will work with housing and homelessness experts inside and outside the team to help clients find and keep a home. By working diligently and proactively, as part of an integrated multi-agency team, you will apply intensive and co-created recovery solutions, enabling health & well-being improvements that are meaningful and sustainable. The existing STaR team members are inspiring and motivating supporting positive change for some of the most vulnerable people in Exeter. If you are committed to addressing social exclusion and you would love to work on a project that gives you the time, space, expertise and resources to do things differently we would love for you to apply.

You will provide substance misuse-specific knowledge and interventions, working in a highly flexible way to bring the right treatment, in the right place, at the right time to people with complex lives. You will work in a multi skilled team based in Exeters multiagency hub, CoLab, where you will be able to ensure the clients can access support that will help them address multiple support needs. We do not expect you to be an expert in multiple areas, you will work with lots of different partner agencies who all bring different expertise and allow us to address the many presenting needs of our clients.

We are keen to acknowledge the complexity of peoples problems whilst highlighting their inherent strengths and helping them connect with friends and families who want to see them recover. STaR works to a Strength-Based Approach focusing on individuals and community assets, you will work with the client, family / friends, the team and our wider network of partners to build a network of support around the client. Where services essential to the progress of service users' treatment journeys, are less accessible, you will be assertively advocating for equitable entry into those existing services through all appropriate channels.

The successful applicant will care deeply about addressing social injustice, will be resourceful, able to articulate themself appropriately on behalf of the service users and resilient to change and challenges. If you are the successful candidate, you will be part of an exciting project that will bring immediate and new opportunities for recovery and health improvement to a particularly marginalised group of people. To support this, you will have access to high quality management support: and you will be able to draw on the Teams expertise in medicine, psychology and homelessness. You will participate in weekly multi-disciplinary clinical meetings with a focus on shared risk management and psychological formulation; you will be provided with regular psychologist-led reflective practice; and psychologist led one-to-one clinical supervision and professional development. You will have access to supplementary training: and be invited to contribute to the project learning and evaluation group.

Service Provision:
  • Client-focused with strong positive aspirations for this complex client group.
  • The motivation to help us devise new ways in which people can recover, a desire to help us test new ways of working, learn and adapt and then test new refined ways of helping people.
  • Bring personal warmth and empathy skills to building trusting relations with clients.
  • Early and assertive engagement meetings with service users where they are living.
  • Well-developed professional boundaries and ability to apply co-production principles to any stage of treatment/recovery.
  • Responsible for managing dynamic risk and personal safety in a wide range of environments.
  • Robust understanding of both harm reduction and recovery principles and practice
  • Able to think creatively about treatment options, changes and transitions in the context of a multi-disciplinary and agency approach.
  • Access supervision, group supervision and learning opportunities; being able to identify professional growth areas and support colleagues with their ongoing professional development where appropriate.
  • Engage in task and finish groups as appropriate to support the projects evaluation and sustainability plan of the project.
  • Encourage service users to become involved in the project and in service user forums in Exeter that will enhance their experience and increase a sense of belonging.
  • Broker community assets and resources that will strengthen recovery, increase health and well-being and expand scope of opportunities for our service users.
