As a Molecular Scientist you’ll manage and deliver molecular analysis in the Mycology Team including some analysis for our Seeds function. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring samples are analysed to the agreed deadlines through effective work planning and adherence to set procedures.

37.5 Monday – Friday (flexi between 7am & 7pm)

ASAP depending on recruitment and onboarding timelines.

What you’ll be doing:
The day-to-day management and delivery of molecular analysis in the Mycology Team including some analysis for the Seeds Team, following protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Prioritising samples to meet agreed deadlines.
Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) for diagnostic tests.
Ensuring best practice in the laboratories by adhering to quality systems (ISO 17025 and ISO 9001).
Troubleshooting problems when they occur.
Reviewing and amending SOPs as well as assisting with literature reviews.
Assisting with method transfer from research to routine frontline diagnostics and method improvements.

What we’re looking for:
Ideally you’ll have a BSc or equivalent in an appropriate subject plus relevant lab experience.
You must have experience of working in a busy laboratory and handling a variety of plant types.
in molecular diagnostics including a range of nucleic acid extraction and detection techniques. Experience of training others in these techniques would be desirable.
experience in sequence interpretation (e.g., using Geneious Prime - Version 2019.2.1. and NCBI BLAST database) would also be desirable.
Experience of planning laboratory work and the ability to react to changing priorities. You must be well organised, highly motivated, demonstrate attention to detail and have effective decision-making skills based on evidence.
An excellent team player, good problem-solver and be able to quickly recognise and flag issues when they arise.
Experience of working to accredited standards such as ISO 17025 and ISO 9001, and good IT skills particularly with Microsoft applications and databases.
