Role Summary:
The Commercial Director/COO will be a key member of the executive team, responsible for delivering the company’s strategic goals. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise and commercial acumen to drive business growth, operational efficiency, and strategic development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering within the energy sector, combined with significant experience in commercial management.
Our client is looking for someone with the commercial acumen to take our highly innovative and patented wind energy product to market, but also with the technical know-how to drive the R+D team to ensure the product is right for the desired markets.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with company goals.
- Drive business growth through strategic planning and market analysis.
- Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to shape the company’s vision and long-term strategy.
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily operations across multiple sites, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
- Lead and effectively manage the teams
- Effectively manage contractors and supply chain
- Implement robust processes and systems to enhance productivity and operational performance.
Commercial Development:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and partnerships.
- Develop and manage client relationships to drive sales and revenue growth.
- Negotiate and manage contracts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Engineering Oversight:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team.
- Determine the key development pathways, manage the entire developmental cycle.
- Ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects on time and within budget.
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices.
Financial Management:
- Oversee budget planning, financial forecasting, and performance reporting.
- Ensure cost-effective operations and maximise profitability.
- Manage risks and opportunities to safeguard the company’s financial health.
Travel:
- Regular travel between sites is required to oversee operations, engage with teams, and meet clients and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in a related field such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering). An MBA or equivalent commercial qualification is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the energy and engineering sector, with a significant portion in a senior commercial or operational role.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale engineering projects and commercial operations.
- Strong understanding of the energy market, regulatory environment, and industry trends.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel extensively and manage multiple site operations.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Commercially astute with a keen understanding of business finance and market dynamics.
- Effective team leader with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
