Job Description

We are currently seeking a National Operations Manager to join our Operations team at our Felixstowe site.

As National Operations Manager you will oversee, manage and monitor the daily activities of the team across the South & North Depots to ensure they run consistently, smoothly and efficiently

This is a full time, permanent position working Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm offering a competitive salary and the opportunity to work with a market leader.

Job responsibilities of National Operations Manager include:

  • Oversee, manage, and monitor the daily activities of the traffic teams across all Ports sites.
  • Make decisions in the best interests of the Company and for Clients and where these decisions cannot be made, escalate the issue immediately to the Managing Director.
  • Establishing a culture of continuous business improvement
  • Delegate effectively by understanding and tapping into the strengths of the team members.
  • Work closely with all departments within the Sector to explore ways to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Constantly drive and promote a positive working culture that encourages high morale and top performance across all Ports Depots
  • Overseeing the collation of daily, weekly, and monthly reporting, planning and targets.
  • Identifying and addressing problems and opportunities for the Company.
  • Develop, train, and support your team to ensure they meet the high standard expected.
  • Keep up to date with all relevant legislation and ensure that regulations, Company policies and procedures are always followed by you and your team eg. WTD, SSWs, HR
  • Ensure the team are aware of their responsibilities in relation to Health and Safety legislation, GDPR, other relevant policies.
  • Organise relevant training for the development of your team members, and yourself.
  • Continuously promote the Sector values and mission for the department.
  • Developing and implementing operational policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Staying up to date with technological changes within the industry and passing this knowledge on to your colleagues.
  • Future planning, number monitoring, work trend monitoring for all operations.
  • Ensure the planning is as tight as possible without compromising service levels.
  • Monitoring and Managing Drivers wages, nights outs, excess hours.
  • Ensuring the team are inputting the correct work is in the screens.
  • Reviewing truck earnings, understanding the correct work to go on the Own Vehicles, and the costs associated.
  • Monitor a.m. and p.m. work to ensure a good balance.
  • Close interaction with the Commercial Director to discuss work volumes and KPI's.
  • Relationships to be built with the dock relevant to your area.
  • Monitor stand trailers dropped at sites and in depots.
  • Monitor specialist equipment utilisation and target new business via Commercial Manager as required.
  • Have full understanding and investigate any queries on the weekly P&L.
  • Pay sub-contractors weekly and monitor the sub-contractor numbers
  • Manage the holiday planner and cover for the Traffic Operators across sites ensuring appropriate levels of manpower plans at all times.
Qualifications
