This rolecan be based in either London or Darlington. 

 

The DarlingtonEconomic Campus is a ground-breaking new cross-government hub whichbring together departments and public organisations which lead onsome of the most important economic issues of theday.  

 

Jobdescription  


TheDirector will jointly lead a group of 130 employees. You will leadthe parts of the group that focus on; the UK’s corporate taxregime; international tax strategy and coordination, includingworking with stakeholders such as the OECD, as well as providingwider technical leadership on tax policy across thedepartment.  


Thepost-holderwill: 


  • Providestrong leadership to the 130 employees in the group, workingtogether with the co-director to create a supportive and inclusiveenvironment, promoting wellbeing and developingtalent 
  • Act as the most senior taxspecialist within the Treasury, with proven ability to craft andsuccessfully deliver major tax changers including new andinnovative taxes in the business and international taxsphere 
  • Represent the UK at a high levelon cross-border and other international tax, with a track record ofinfluencing at the most senior levels in multilateral and bilateralnegotiations to defend and deliver the UK’sinterests  
  • Explain complex technicalissues in accessible terms, both to Ministers and in communicationwith the public, stakeholders andinternationally 
  • Collaborate effectivelywith the rest of the Treasury with HMRC through the PolicyPartnership, and with counterparts in othercountries 
  • Support the Director Generalfor Tax and Welfare to develop and deliver the government’s overalltax strategy  

Thepost-holder will report directly to the Director General for TaxandWelfare.

Whilein post, the successful candidate will be expected to perform wellacross the full range of Senior Civil Service behaviours set out inthe Success Profile framework and demonstrate commitment to theCivil Servicevalues.  


Thecriteria for the purpose of selectionare: 


  • Soundjudgement and strong strategic vision, with a track record ofleading in uncertain and complex policyenvironments 
  • Excellent influencing andinterpersonal skills with a proven ability to gain the confidenceof and work effectively with senior stakeholders such as Ministers(or board-level equivalents) and to work collaboratively across anorganisation and with internationalcounterparts 
  • In-depth knowledge of the UKbusiness tax regime, experience of delivering significant policychange (such as the introduction of new tax), together with anunderstanding of tax policy, the Budget process, and/or fiscal andspending frameworks 
  • Experience ofdefending and securing the UK’s interests in complex multilateralnegotiations and representing the UK at internationalfora  
  • Excellent people leadershipskills, with experience of setting direction and creating a workingenvironment in which teams deliver at pace in an inclusiveway
