There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Durham Division is looking to recruit a Head of Construction to join the team.

The Role

The role of Head of Construction carries the overall responsibility for the management and success of the construction department, focusing on the delivery of all targets and objectives within the constraints of time, cost, and quality.

Principal Accountabilities
  1. Overall responsibility for the management of the Construction Department.
  2. Ensure compliance with the Group's Health and Safety policy to ensure safe working environments across all developments and attendance at all divisional Health and Safety meetings.
  3. Delivery of all targets and objectives within specified timescales and budgets.
  4. Maximising the profit potential of the division through robust management and monitored performance of the construction team.
  5. Ensure that the Bellway Fire Policy is adhered to across all sites.
  6. Work closely with the sales and customer care departments to deliver exceptional customer care ratings.
  7. Ensure all construction teams work in accordance with Bellway customer care procedures on site.
  8. Drive and foster a positive culture within the workforce.
  9. Manage the development of sites in accordance with agreed specifications and programme/number of legal completions as agreed within the division.
  10. Ensure best practice is followed at all times and that the key constraints of time, cost, and quality are managed appropriately.
  11. Ensure that site preliminary/overhead costs are properly controlled.
  12. Delivery of construction/management reports for Main Board.
  13. Attendance and contribution at monthly valuation meetings.
  14. Mentor, manage, and motivate the construction team.
Experience, Qualifications, and SkillsExperience
  1. Management experience at a senior level / Head of Construction / Senior Construction Manager.
  2. Management of a construction function within the built environment.
  3. Previous experience as a Senior Construction Manager with a volume house builder is essential.
Qualifications and Training
  1. Relevant CSCS card or equivalent.
  2. SMSTS certificate.
  3. HND in Construction, or Level 7 Construction NVQ desirable.
  4. Full UK driving licence.

  1. Strong communication, listening, and presentation skills.
  2. Excellent attention to detail.
  3. Methodical, conscientious, organized, and works to deliver high standards.
  4. Ability to recognize problems and deal with them in a speedy and effective manner.
  5. Ability to manage and motivate a team.
  6. Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Ability to problem-solve and delegate effectively.
  8. IT literate and the ability to adapt to new systems within the commercial environment.
The Role and Working Conditions
  1. Daily travel to development sites and Divisional Head Office.
  2. Willing to be flexible in respect of day-to-day duties and hours worked.
