Job Summary: Ultima is looking for a proactive and skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join our fully remote team. As a self-starter and self-manager, you will navigate complex cloud environments and play a pivotal role in optimizing our database systems. You will be tasked with improving application performance, addressing issues like SQL blocking, and identifying potential areas for enhancement. This role will involve database analysis, query optimization, monitoring, alerting, and ensuring robust disaster recovery strategies, alongside improving documentation and automated responses.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Administration:
  • Manage, maintain, and optimize databases in cloud environments.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of database systems, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Address and resolve SQL-related issues, such as 3e blocking.
  • Performance Optimization:
  • Perform statement optimization and ensure efficient query execution.
  • Identify and implement potential improvements for SQL performance across applications.
  • Monitoring and Alerting:
  • Set up and manage monitoring tools to track database performance.
  • Respond to alerts with swift troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Implement automated responses to address common issues and improve efficiency.
  • Disaster Recovery (DR):
  • Develop and maintain robust DR strategies and ensure failover readiness.
  • Conduct regular testing of DR plans to guarantee effectiveness.
  • Documentation and Process Improvement:
  • Improve and maintain comprehensive database documentation.
  • Standardize processes for database management and support.
  • Collaboration and Goal Setting:
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gain an overview of systems such as 3e and EDG.
  • Set and achieve application improvement goals, aligned with organizational priorities.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a DBA, with expertise in cloud-based environments.
  • Strong ability to self-start and manage responsibilities independently.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL database systems, including analysis and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and alerting systems.
  • Proficiency in disaster recovery planning and implementation.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with applications like 3e and EDG is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting languages for automation purposes.
