Role Overview:

Cathedral Studios seeks a skilled programmer with strong communication skills and high levels of initiative to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for solving problems, creating games, and a love of collaboration. As a Programmer at Cathedral Studios, you will play a critical role in the company - creating and maintaining good code alongside your peers and influencing how your department operates. At Cathedral Studios we follow a flat team structure, and so self-directed organization, growth, and output are all the norm. We are looking for a programmer, with a strong understanding of Unreal Engine & Network Engineering. Experience with the Gameplay Ability System (GAS) and strong C++ foundational knowledge is also a plus, as well as a love for game design itself.


Ideal level of experience: Intermediate or higher


Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the programming team to ensure delivery and maintenance of good code.
  • Efficiently manage and prioritize tasks to meet the studio's build release schedules.
  • Design and write code following SOLID principles.
  • Contribute to the design of the game with critical thinking and open-minded ideation.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on the team on networking tasks, balancing the load together fairly.
  • Operate, iterate, and maintain backend services such as PlayFab, AWS, and so on.
  • Assist the broader game development team with system design, integration, performance, technical support, and other day to day tasks required to help artists, sound designers, and so on.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Detailed and expert understanding of Unreal Engine.
  • Exceptional communication and time-management skills.
  • A willingness to learn.
  • C++ & Blueprints.
  • Gameplay Ability System proficiency.
  • Experience with Unreal Insights, Profiling, Performance Optimisation and bug hunting.
  • Proficiency with Azure PlayFab.
  • Detailed and expert understanding of AWS various game services.
  • Prior experience or meaningful understanding of load testing.
