Senior Software Engineer

Fixed Term Contract until 10/2025 – potential for extension


This is a brilliant opportunity to join an institute for a world class university, known for their research and reputation globally. They are looking for a Senior Research Software Engineer to join their newly formed cloud computing and AI/ML team to help provide centralised expertise on the use of public cloud computing for research applications, in particular contemporary AI/ML approaches. You will provide expertise to researchers who require access to cloud computing capabilities. This will require software engineering and public cloud infrastructure experience.


Main responsibilities


  • Manage multiple projects within the portfolio of the Competency Centre
  • Design and implement high quality, reliable, and re-usable software
  • Collaborate with research colleagues to identify and establish research software projects, particularly AI/ML applications that require cloud capabilities
  • Assist in budget management for the group and individual projects
  • Build strong working relationships with subject matter experts


Requirements


  • Strong use of public cloud service providers e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure, Oracle
  • Strong experience in research publications or released software projects
  • Ability to plan and manage a research project independently with a significant software engineering component
  • Programming language experience e.g., Python, C++, Java etc.
  • Experience moving computational applications into a robust production offering, especially AI/ML workflows
