Following the Independent Water Commissions final report, the UK government has set out a bold new direction - one that brings together expertise from across the sector to deliver better outcomes for customers and the environment.The Role The Information Governance Lead role has an important and valuable contribution tomake in leading Ofwat's freedom of information and data protection functionsthrough a period of change. This role is key to achieving ongoing openness andtransparency by the current and future regulators in the water industry. In addition to meeting our responsibilities under freedom of information and data protection legislation you will be responsible for leading necessary reviews of relevantpolicies and standards, driving and testing compliance with evolving requirementsand ICO guidelines.Key deliverables In this role you will report to the Head of Information Governance and be expected to: Freedom of Information and Data Protection Produce responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests, and Subject Access Requests, and lead on the coordination of internal reviews of our responses to information requests or management of casework investigations and complaints.Lead Ofwat's compliance with all applicable data protection laws, including the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Data Protection (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA), providing specialist advice and guidance, and ensuring the appropriate and secure use and sharing of personal data.Be responsible for serious incident reporting for personal data breaches, and following up lessons learned.Lead on organisational training on freedom of information and data protection Continuous improvement Lead and co-ordinate continuous improvement work across all relevant information governance functions, including the development and implementation of training and awareness programmes for colleagues across Ofwat; and the increasing use of IT technologies to support information governance functionsProvide subject matter expertise and practical support in the upkeep of information governance policy, guidance, associated resources, and supporting documentationSupport joint projects and wider organisational development work to further transparency in line with our data and digital strategies You may also have People Leader responsibilities.About You Below are some of the key essential experience, skills & knowledge required for this post: 1.Lead criterion: Experienced Information Governance (Knowledge and Information Management) professional with extensive practical expertise in organisational compliance including under FOIA 2000, EIR 2004, UK GDPR and DPA 20182.Technical skills and proficiency in working with systems such as Microsoft Teams, Excel and SharePoint Online, as well as being comfortable with using new and innovative technology such as AI to support current and future operating models.3.Ability to organise self and others to organise and analyse large amounts of information at pace and to project manage collaborative delivery to tight statutory deadlines4.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear correspondence, documentation and guidance.Why You Should Join Us: People Centric: Our people are at the heart of Ofwat and everything we do - we ensure all voices are heard and treat each other with respect; you'll be given the autonomy and the support to do your role in the best way.Innovative Work Environment: We embrace agile and new ways of working and have a culture build on trust, flexibility, and collaboration.Development Opportunities: Gain valuable experience and develop your skills in a supportive and dynamic setting.Work-Life Balance: Enjoy the flexibility of working from home combined with the benefits of in person collaboration in our Birmingham offices.Good employer pension contributions25 days annual leave, increasing to 30 with each year of service, plus bank holidays and an extra 2.5 days of privilege leave.Access to exclusive discounts on a variety of goods and services, including retail outlets, theatre tickets, holidays, insurance, and a gym membership.Fees paid for membership of relevant professional bodies.Up to 3 volunteering days per year.Recognition vouchers scheme rewarding your hard work.Generous shared parental leave and pay supporting your family life.Follow the link to Apply for full details about the role, please ensure you have submitted your Applications in full before the below deadline.Closing date: 23.55 on 7 December 2025TPBN1_UKTJ
