We are convinced that HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology, solutions for energy transfer with direct current at high voltages, is a long-term sustainable solution. The technology is used for energy transmission over long distances and to connect electricity networks with minimal losses. In addition to energy transfer, HVDC technology also alleviates electricity quality problems and can contribute to the stabilization of connected power grids. For offshore wind power or long-distance underwater transmissions, direct current is the only realistic energy transmission alternative.


In this role as a Software Engineer you will be a part Ireland & UK Service team. You will be responsible for Protection, we have interfaces towards other domains within Control & Protection, IT/OT, Hardware and Operations. As an HVDC Software Engineer you will apply your knowledge and be included in the complete life cycle of our systems. This includes design, maintenance, testing, integration, verification, deployment, and documentation of functions needed for safe and reliable operations of a plant and transmission links.

Reporting to the Service Manager you will be responsible for working at HVDC customer sites throughout the UK and Ireland.

Requirements - Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:


Essential


  • You hold a degree in Electrical/Power Engineering or relevant to the work within HVDC Control and Protection systems.
  • Experience within software development and programming. Preferable within power system applications.
  • Equally important is your inner drive, and ability to get things done. For us, that means that you are a driven problem solver who eagerly takes on new tasks and enjoys the challenges of engineering.
  • Experience of HVDC Control & Protection is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience in IT networking fundamentals and SCADA testing and implementation.
  • An ability to work under pressure and on your own initiative.
  • Sound communication.
  • Team building skills.
  • MS Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Fluent written & spoken English.
  • Full clean driving license.


Beneficial / Advantageous


  • Previous electrical / mechanical authorisations, e.g. CP, AP, SAP.
  • Relevant trade qualifications in an engineering discipline e.g. electrician
  • At least 5+ years’ experience in HV power systems.
  • HV (>132kV) substation experience (Other High Voltage ranges considered).
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with items of High Voltage equipment.
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with LV and mechanical system
  • Experience in delivering technical reports and fault analysis.
  • Impressed voltage awareness.
  • IT / Cyber security experience.
