Position Overview

Work Arrangement: 50% Remote & 50% On-Site

The Modifications & Upgrades (MU) division plays a vital role in assisting operational automated material handling facilities in executing improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The Controls Systems Engineer will:

  • Design, implement, and sustain hardware/software solutions for modernization and upgrade projects.
  • Deliver control solutions, including software design and commissioning, ensuring alignment with project cost and timeline requirements.
  • Conduct site surveys at various customer locations to assess their needs effectively.

The primary office is located in Wellingborough, but due to travel requirements, remote work is an integral part of the role.

Project Objectives

Provide control solutions for material handling projects, focusing on:

  • Meeting project specifications within budget and time constraints.
  • Understanding the challenges of working on live sites and delivering solutions that minimize disruptions to client operations while adhering to project scope.
Technical Requirements

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing PLC software, including safety-compliant code.
  • Creating all necessary documentation, such as Functional Design Specifications, testing protocols, and commissioning checklists.
  • Commissioning control systems on-site and supporting system integration commissioning activities.

Qualifications:

  • HNC or HND, or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing PLC software within an automated materials handling context or similar industries.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Step 7/TIA is advantageous, though candidates with experience in other PLC platforms will also be considered.
  • Possession of a valid UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to various sites as needed.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours to achieve project goals.
