We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Engineering Team Manager to join our UK Service & Engineering team. This position is an office-based role in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, and requires a hands-on approach and a strong technical background. The ideal candidate will have leadership potential and the ambition to grow into roles of increasing responsibility. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing the Technical Helpdesk operations, providing guidance and support to the Helpdesk team, and ensuring the efficient resolution of technical issues. The role will be crucial in maintaining seamless communication between the helpdesk, field teams, and factory engineering functions, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction and service quality.


Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Management

  • Proactively assist in engineering activities within After Sales Engineering
  • Assist the Engineering Team Manager in continuously improving team performance, suggesting process improvements, and measuring the quality and speed of support to stakeholders.
  • Support the Engineering Team Manager in daily operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Act as the primary coordinator and contact for the service team, ensuring effective communication and support.
  • Demonstrate leadership potential, with the ambition to potentially gain additional responsibilities.


Technical Support

  • Provide technical support to DAF Dealer network and Master Technicians, to help resolve complex truck repairs.Offer guidance and assistance to the joint sales and service teams, enhancing overall service quality.
  • Manage and support user trials and field testing with Leyland & Eindhoven production.


Investigation & Compliance

  • Lead investigations related to thermal incidents and accidents, ensuring thorough analysis and reporting.
  • Handle requests for information from authorities, ensuring timely and accurate responses.


Collaboration & Improvement

  • Liaise between field teams and factory engineering functions to drive product improvements and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with truck sales and factory product engineers.
  • Manage and support service requests, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues.


Qualifications

  • Hands-on product experience, ideally at a Master Technician level, with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong technical background and expertise in truck engineering and repair.
  • Proven team leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team effective.
  • Positive attitude, willing to work hard and smart to achieve team and organisational goals.
  • Pragmatic, resilient, and customer focused mindset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as an ambassador for the business.
  • Analytical skills, with the ability to suggest and implement process improvements.
  • No restrictions on travel, with the flexibility to travel as required.
  • Must live within a 50-mile radius of Haddenham, the DAF Trucks UK headquarters.
