Consultant in Critical Care Medicine
We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Critical Care Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.
Our client's Critical Care department includes an Intensive Care (ICU) and a High Dependency (HDU). ICU has a total of 8 individual rooms with single beds and 2 large rooms with 2 beds each. All rooms in ICU are negative pressure rooms. HDU has 9 beds including 3 single rooms and two large 3 bedded areas. All beds in the Critical Care Complex are equipped with full monitoring facilities and a central monitoring station on each side. The Critical Care Complex admits close to 1000 patients per year. Median length of stay for the unit is 3.4 (1.8-6.9) days. Bed occupancy is more than 90% for the majority of time. Turnover of patients is really high hence the unit is very busy. Of all the referrals, over 90% are from medical specialties. There is a weekly radiology meeting on Thursday morning. A microbiology involved multi-disciplinary meeting is held every afternoon in the critical care complex. Daily, there are two consultant-led ward rounds plus a night telephone ward round. There are two handovers every day directly supervised by critical care consultants. Critical care also provides 24/7 outreach services to the hospital, led by a lead nurse for outreach. Critical care provides a follow-up clinic bimonthly for identified patients, with plans in place to increase the frequency of this clinic to once a month.
The successful appointee will be asked to undertake various duties within the department, including: most Consultants will take on a quality and service role, so the indicative job plan is outlined below at an 8DCC/2SPA split; the basic 1.5 PA and 0.5 PA for an additional Trust Directed SPA. If no such roles are undertaken, then the split will be 8.5/1.5. This post will involve weekend on-call commitments to be confirmed upon appointment. The appointee will work with colleagues and the Clinical Audit and Effectiveness department to ensure that relevant clinical audit is carried out. Consultants have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their department. They are expected to undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their clinical departments. In addition, the post-holder will be expected to teach junior doctors regularly as agreed with the Specialty Lead.
Our client is based in a beautiful suburb borough on the outskirts of London with close proximity to big international airports, along with access to highly reputable public and private schools within the area.
Additional Information:
