Job Description

About the Role


The ICU-East has 16 beds for Level 3 care, and the cardiac anaesthetist/intensivist consultant is responsible for clinical and non-clinical decision making. This is an excellent opportunity for those with a background in surgery and medicine who wish to gain ICU experience and learn practical skills.


The post involves working in a busy environment with a wide range of complex cases, including coronary artery bypass operations, valve replacement or repair, and aortic root surgery. There is also a busy interventional cardiac catheter lab performing procedures like ASD and PFO closure, MitraClips and TAVIs.


Key Responsibilities



  • Clinical management of patients in conjunction with the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Consultant.
  • Documentation and entering data on a computerised audit system.
  • Participation in clinical research projects if interest is shown.
  • Working in a professional and courteous manner with the multidisciplinary team.
