We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior IT Project Manager, to be involved in an industry leading, cutting-edge project for a new type of power station.



Job Purpose:

This post is within the Rolls-Royce SMR IT Function, with the responsibility to deliver IT projects to scope, schedule and to budget. As a Senior Project Manager you will be responsible for the delivery of several medium and large-scale IT initiatives as part of our ERP Programme of work.


You will coordinate activities of others within the IT Team, the wider business and the supply chain to deliver the defined outcomes. Our strategic IT Systems Product roadmap calls for the transformation of our ERP systems landscape for Finance, Procurement and Supply Chain processes. The Senior IT Project Manager will directly work to deliver this critical strategic change for our business.



Key Results & What Can Be Achieved in The Role:

With focus on ERP systems, The Senior Project Manager will work closely with the Business, IT SAs, Tech Leads, & SMEs to deliver the IT Systems Enterprise Architect roadmap. Additionally, this role will orchestrate and co-ordinate the work of delivery teams from multiple software and System Integration suppliers to deliver several strategically important initiatives aligned to the business requirements. They will take full responsibility for the definition, documentation, and completion of several medium-scale or a large-scale projects (typically lasting up to 12-18 months, with direct business impact).


The Senior IT Project Manager will ensure initiatives are managed and documented in line with the requirements of the RR SMR Integrated Management System, all governance reviews and reporting metrics completed as required. Stakeholders are kept appropriately informed of progress, risks, issues and escalations raised when required.


They will provide effective leadership to the project teams, and take appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.They will monitor and control resources, revenue and capital costs against the project budget and manages vendor performance to ensure project deliverables are delivered.




The Key Selection Criteria:

Technical Skills

  • Multiple years’ experience leading medium - large size/complexity IT Delivery Projects using industry best practice techniques. Adept at pragmatically managing a team to deliver within parameters of Scope, Cost, and Time.
  • Competent at managing typical aspects of IT Delivery projects including Planning, Budgets, Resources, Risks, Issues, Dependencies, Reporting, Change, Roadmaps, Stakeholders, Benefits.
  • Clearly demonstrable experience delivering large-scale and complex ERP implementations and/or migrations. Bias for SAP S/4HANA implementations in relevant industries.


Technical Skills

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in a number of project delivery methodologies and the suitability of each for different scenarios (Waterfall & Agile methodology).
  • Familiar with agile methodology such as Scrum, with the ability to take a lead in agile workstreams & teams working through an Agile methodology to continuously deliver prioritised value to the business


Interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communicator with stakeholders of varying seniority, tailoring method to the scenario. Able to rationalise complex information (both high level and detailed level) to make it understandable for others to work with.
  • Conveys information and ideas clearly, accurately, and persuasively.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to proactively eliminate problems and ease the path to delivery of delightful user experiences.


Business Acumen

  • Breadth of experience managing project teams comprising internal and third-party resources to contribute to the successful delivery of project outcomes


Management Responsibility

  • Delivery of prioritised User Stories / Requirements to provide business benefits
  • Able to plan future work and work to agreed milestones effectively; supporting management teams to build broader plans that deliver SMR’s strategic objectives.
  • Experience contributing to the development and enhancement of delivery processes and tools; supporting a culture of continuous improvement



Qualifications & Training:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline, with chartered status preferred.
  • Industry standard PPM certification (e.g. Prince2, APM, etc.).
  • Programme management experience, with significant cost and budget control.
  • Demonstrable evidence of strong leadership principles.
  • Clearly demonstrable experience with SAP S/4HANA implementations and migrations for Finance, Procurement and Supply Chain processes.
