The Solution Group are currently seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join one of our prestigious clients in the construction industry, based in Brighton & Hove. This role is essential for overseeing financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

Job Description:

As a Senior Bookkeeper, you will manage and maintain the financial records of our client. Your role is crucial in implementing effective bookkeeping practices and supporting the overall financial health of the company. This position demands a high level of attention to detail, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledgers, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Prepare financial statements, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements, and other financial transactions.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and tax requirements.
  • Prepare and process payroll, manage deductions, and ensure timely payment.
  • Manage invoicing, collections, and vendor payments.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate annual audits and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support management decision-making.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.


Qualifications / Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within the construction or scaffolding industry.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • AAT level 4 or qualified by experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with job costing and project accounting.
  • Familiarity with construction financial management software, mainly Xero.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements.


Work Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm
  • Office-based in Brighton (not hybrid or remote)
