Since our launch in 2000, we've sold over 100 million bottles and cultivated an exclusive range of over 700 distinct wines by collaborating with skilled winemakers globally. As part of the Virgin family, we are dedicated to enhancing customer experiences and continuously innovating our offerings.

Our Ambition

We are on a transformative journey to revolutionise our technological foundations, moving from a legacy VMware-hosted platform to a cutting-edge AWS implementation that meets the latest industry standards for innovation and security. This role is a unique opportunity to lead the design and creation of a new cloud environment, driving significant growth and innovation within the wine technology sector.

The Role

As a Senior DevOps/SRE Engineer, your role is crucial in bridging development and operations, enhancing software delivery through automation and efficient practices. You will assess and strategise improvements for our current VMware technology stack, lead the architectural design, and manage the transition to AWS. This position also involves mentoring and leading our junior DevOps engineer and enhancing team capabilities in modern DevOps/SRE methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leadership to design and deploy robust, secure, and scalable AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Lead the migration from our VMware platform to AWS, ensuring a seamless transition and optimal performance.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support development teams, improving code deployments alongside developers and QA teams.
  • Innovate and optimise monitoring, logging, and alerting practices to proactively address potential issues.
  • Create high-availability strategies, manage release processes, and ensure disaster recovery and compliance are robust.
  • Mentor team members in DevOps/SRE best practices and encourage continuous learning and improvement.

Required Capabilities

  • Extensive background in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with a deep understanding of cloud computing and system architecture.
  • Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in DevOps or SRE roles, demonstrating proficiency in designing and managing performative, cost effective, secure cloud environments.
  • Advanced knowledge and operational experience with AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, ELB, and IAM.
  • Expert level proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, and tools like Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure as code implementations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in setting up and managing CI/CD workflows and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD) for end-to-end automation of deployment and testing processes.
  • Strong experience in performance monitoring and log management using the ELK stack or similar tools to ensure high availability and proactive troubleshooting.
  • Excellent strategic planning and problem-solving skills, capable of leading projects under tight timelines while managing operational challenges.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a proven track record of mentoring teams and driving cross-functional collaboration.

Desirable Capabilities

  • Experience integrating Kubernetes and Docker into existing systems to improve management and reduce costs.
  • Proficiency in managing Elastic solutions to optimise data analytics.
  • Strong awareness of networking protocols and tools, crucial for ensuring system integrity and performance.
  • Previous experience in the e-commerce or technology industries, particularly within high-growth settings, which is invaluable for understanding the unique challenges and opportunities in these sectors.

What We Offer

  • A front-row seat and active role in a significant platform transformation, with opportunities to impact the future of our technology directly.
  • The freedom to innovate and implement your ideas in a supportive environment.
  • Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and substantial opportunities for professional growth and recognition.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
