Job purpose
The Food Development Manager is responsible for the development and launch of new products. Providing expertise across En Route’s core categories, ensuring all projects are completed within agreed timescales and to the required standards. Working closely with the Head of Food to shape the strategy and tactical execution of food development.
This role will focus on strategic projects as well as building their respective category.
Key responsibilities
- Lead key projects to develop new products and processes in response to customer or business brief s that maintain and grow a creative catalogue of product, but also achieve the required margin for our customers and the business
- Maintain category responsibility for client tenders as per Managing Directors requirements
- Drive the development of En Route food strategy and product development categories
- Support the Head of food in driving culinary innovation and excellence through the business; bringing cross functional teams together to develop new products and give existing ranges a new lease of life
- Work closely with the Head of Food and the Sales Team to ensure relevance of product portfolio; drive change and innovation to meet customer needs, working collaboratively with Creative and Technical teams for fast, effective new product development
- Ensure that product range is refreshed, reviewed and updated when needed to ensure it is relevant and contemporary. Avoid unnecessary spread in range eliminating obsolescence and optimising inventory
- Lead the successful launch of new products, ensuring comprehensive briefing of sales teams; price positioning based on knowledge of competitors and substitutes; promotion and communication for market awareness.
- Work with new and existing suppliers to deliver ‘best in class’ products.
- Understand the wants and needs of both our customers and the end consumer. Build strong relationships with customers, keeping them informed and ensuring all required information is readily available
- Work with the Head of Food to translate current food trends into a commercially successful strategy and be the first to market, working with suppliers on own brand and retailer branded products
- Organise and lead factory trials and draft manufacturing specifications o Work with the Technical team to monitor the quality of new and existing products
- Act as an En Route ambassador at PR and Marketing events as and when required
- Able to travel overseas as required

Experience
- Chef experience with expertise across multiple categories
- Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of NPD and product development for mass production
