Research Associate
Brilliant Research Associates - and the work they do - underpin much of the scientific success we’re having at Ivy Farm.
You’ll be a part of a highly skilled community of some 40+ scientists; one that’s on a mission to create the world’s best guilt free, sustainable meat. And the meat we make is cultivated meat. It is just like real meat, only made differently.
You already have strong practical lab experience within mammalian cell culture and aseptic work, and this’ll be backed up by your experience in analytical methods. You’ll be working as part of the Cell Engineering Team and the wider Cell Sciences Team, performing cell culture, analytical assays, as well as preparing reagents and culture medium to produce cultivated meat at scale.
Your ability to ‘make things happen’ and provide the robust back-up to a high-energy and multi-disciplinary scientific team is what makes you stand out from other RA’s, and it’s why you’d fit right in at Ivy Farm. You’ll also be part of a team where you’ll get day-to-day support, guidance, and coaching from the leaders.
What does the role look like?
You’ll conduct scientific work to support the Cell Engineering Team, you’ll be trained in all relevant technologies, and you will perform the following duties, (amongst others):
- Support team experiments (cell culture, cell growth characteristic recordings, molecular biology methods, genetic modifications of cells, running of analytical processes on cells and media)
- Resources preparation
- After you’re trained: generating hypothesis, designing and executing of own experiments
- Maintaining accurate records for laboratory work and sample coordination using laboratory information management systems
- Data analysis and presentation for internal meetings
- Of course there is the usual necessity for SOP creation, COSHH and other risk assessments, along with necessary lab maintenance
- Team player for general ad-hoc duties to support the Cells department and the wider team
To join our herd we need:
- Natural problem solver
- Lateral thinker
- Excellent time-management & organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple work streams
- Confident communicator, both written and verbal
- Happy to work with a team or alone to achieve deadlines
We’re looking for 6 months+ experience of working in a laboratory environment and supporting project delivery in a multidisciplinary team with great communication skills. And if you have experience with CHO cell line development, all the better. We’re an innovative bunch, with a can-do attitude and one that’s unafraid to think differently. We also have projects targets, compliance expectations and – as in any fast-paced business – sometimes competing priorities.
So, if you’re ready to join an emerging ground breaking industry, that’s both able to think differently and actively looking to do so, and one where you can make a difference to animal well-being and sustainability then we’re waiting to hear from you
And just to confirm, here at Ivy Farm, we're an employer that believes in creating a workplace where everyone feels included and valued, no matter who they are.
We're always on the lookout for people with awesome attitudes and impressive behaviour. If you think you can bring something positive to the farm, we're excited to hear from you. Even if you're not sure you meet all the requirements, don't be shy – you never know what might happen We want to make a special shout out to people who identify as LGBTQIA+, disabled, or come from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. These are groups that don't have as much representation in the tech industry, and we really want to encourage you to apply.
Salary: £DOE, Bonus, Excellent Benefits Package, inc. Private Health Insurance and Company Shares, team get togethers, company parties, a well stocked kitchen and free flowing tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks.
Location: On site at our head office in Oxford
