The market has moved quickly however, and plenty of other businesses are now fighting to produce the ideas and campaigns we develop, and often they claim to be able to do it cheaper, faster and better.
- We have outstanding capabilities across design, film, content, stills, experiential, digital and post production, but they exist in silos around our business. We are bringing these together and evolving them to create a contemporary and market-leading integrated ‘making’ offering.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
MCR (the Media Control Room) is the beating heart of Girl&Bear studios. Our MCR team provides vital support for the day to day running of the studio, providing editorial assistance and asset management across our team of editors, motion graphics artists and post-producers. MCR are there at every step of our post-production workflow, ingesting & transcoding rushes, preparing and sharing files and assets, syncing video/audio, quality checking masters, encoding for delivery and playout, media management, and archiving.
A role in MCR is the perfect stepping stone to advance a career in post-production. It provides exposure to many aspects of the business. It is a training ground to cultivate and learn technical knowledge that is essential in post-production. It provides the opportunity to work alongside Editors, Producers and Creatives, and to experience the inner workings of content creation in a successful creative agency.
MCR is a fast paced environment often with heavy workloads and fast turn-around times. As an MCR Operator & Edit Assistant you will need to juggle multiple tasks, while staying eager and adaptable. The role will involve occasional weekend cover as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Encoding and converting media using multiple systems
- File delivery to a variety of formats meeting exact delivery requirements and file specifications (audio & video)
- Managing and conducting ingest and back up of file-based camera media
- Media management and project consolidation
- Creation and delivery of broadcast files for delivery to playout providers (i.e. Peach, Adstream etc)
- Broadcast QC of video files of playout, ensuring they are technically accurate and meet broadcast specification
- Providing editorial and workflow assistance to the studio operators as required
- Archival of completed projects
- Preparation and setup of the edit suites when required
- Providing technical assistance to the editors as needed, or escalating more serious issues to the technical architect or manager
- Coordinating with the resource team and post producers to ensure progress updates
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrable basic knowledge of video, image and audio file formats, codecs & standards (i.e. MXF, MOV, MP4, DNxHD, WAV, PNG, etc.)
- Knowledge or basic understanding of post production workflows
- Experience with Adobe Premiere
- Experience with video processing tools and software such as encoding & transcoding software (Adobe Media Encoder, Shutter Encoder, etc.)
- Experience with or basic understanding of proxy workflows for offline/online editing
- Experience with Adobe After Effects & DaVinci Resolve is desirable
- Experience in quality checking video files for delivery to ensure they meet broadcast specifications is desirable
- Ability to interpret automated QC software reports (e.g. Vidchecker-post) to identify quality issues is desirable
- Experience in reading and interpreting waveform monitors and audio meters is desirable
- Graphic Design education or experience would be an advantage
