My client is a leading financial services provider based in Chester, renowned for their innovation, customer-centric approach, and cutting-edge technology. They are seeking a visionary and dynamic Head of Engineering to join their team and lead the technical direction of their engineering department.


Key Skills and Responsibilities:


As the Head of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the engineering strategy, driving innovation, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions. You will lead a talented team of engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a thriving organisation.


  • Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team.
  • Drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge Java-based solutions.
  • Own the technology culture within your squad, ensuring a high-performance culture where people take initiative and deliver on commitments
  • Oversee the architecture and design of microservices to ensure scalability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Platform Leads, Enterprise Architects & Engineers to coordinate and lead the technology teams
  • Partner with Solution Architecture & Enterprise Architecture to ensure we have a clear future plan for the system architecture
  • Work with business stakeholders to better understand the emerging credit landscape and to spot new opportunities for growth
  • Provide inspiring leadership across teams of engineers developing and supporting modern technology solutions
  • Champion CI/CD and DevOps best practices to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the organisation at the forefront of innovation.


Must-Have:

  • Extensive experience in Java development.
  • Proven expertise in microservices architecture.
  • Strong background in CI/CD and DevOps practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities managing multiple squads
  • Strong capabilities for working with and influencing 3rd party providers
  • Proven experience in a wide range of modern platforms and technologies
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
