About the Opportunity

Nuclear Power Programmes are delivering client critical works to some of our major UK and European Projects. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Nuclear Power station.

Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.

The I&C Delivery Team, working on Hinkley Point C includes engineers with experience from working on previous commissioning roles around the world and also graduates and apprentices who are just beginning their journey within the Nuclear sector. Commissioning on the HPC Site is the series of activities required to test the functional and safety performance of the reactors, their supporting systems and the conventional plant installed at the station.

Jacobs, in collaboration with the Commissioning Alliance, are seeking highly skilled and motivated Commissioning Engineers to join our team at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant project, working in partnership with EDF. These roles offer unique opportunities to contribute to one of the largest and most complex nuclear energy projects in the world. The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring the effective commissioning of systems and equipment to achieve operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

• Commissioning Planning and Coordination:

o Develop detailed commissioning plans and schedules in collaboration with project teams, contractors, and EDF stakeholders.

o Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of commissioning activities.

• System Testing and Validation:

o Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests on mechanical, electrical, and control systems to verify functionality and performance.

o Implement test procedures, record results, and troubleshoot issues to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.

• Documentation and Reporting:

o Prepare and maintain comprehensive commissioning documentation, including test plans, procedures, and reports.

o Ensure accurate and timely reporting of commissioning progress, issues, and resolutions to project management and EDF representatives.

• Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance:

o Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices during commissioning activities.

o Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations as required.

• Continuous Improvement:

o Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of best practices in commissioning.

o Provide technical support and mentorship to junior commissioning engineers and other team members.

Here's what you'll need:
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience of commissioning in a regulated sector
  • Familiarity with safety case process and design substantiation
  • Demonstrable history of working within safety and quality cultures
  • Track record of major project delivery in a technical role
  • Good communication skills and the ability to convey complex information to others
  • Experience of working in a regulatory environment
