Community Engagement Manager

Woking, United Kingdom WWF-UK Full time
This is a FTC for 24 months.

At WWF, the world’s leading conservation charity, we’re working on solutions to the biggest challenges to help bring our world back to life.

Our public campaigns aim to inspire public action and demonstrate the public mandate for our advocacy objectives. We deliver large scale public campaigns that normalise action for nature and climate amongst the public, Government and Business, and shift the narrative to restoring nature as the only path to a better future.

The Community Engagement Campaigns team is responsible for working alongside communities to demonstrate the scale of public demand for action that benefits nature and people. The team works in partnership with networks and partners to authentically connect with and support communities, making visible the diversity and scale of community action for nature. WWF uses its unique role in the conservation sector as a connector between communities and decision-makers, including politicians and business leaders.

The Community Engagement Campaigns team sits within the Campaigns, Education and Youth department and works closely with Policy Solutions and Advocacy to deliver their change objectives. The team also works with our Content, Digital, Brand and PR teams on films, digital content and experiences to ensure our activations are in line with our strategy and values and at the scale to cut through and deliver change.

MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB

The Community Engagement Manager will lead projects that work alongside communities to advocate for large-scale change to address the climate and biodiversity crises. They identify and create opportunities to mobilise communities to take actions in support of climate and nature, and to make this action visible to politicians and business leaders.

This will mean working on and offline to identify communities and groups with potential to influence change across our society. This means supporting communities to take action in coalition with us and others; co-creating campaigns or projects; managing grants; sharing political intelligence, space and influence; and facilitating training to transform the capacity of those involved to have continual impact.

You will work closely with campaigns, conservation, policy, communication, partnerships and youth engagement teams to maximise the potential for community engagement to achieve our objectives. With a passion for enabling a diversity of people and communities to participate in systems change, you will believe in the power of grass-roots campaigning to change mindsets and to achieve our objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Co-develop and implement diverse and inclusive community engagement programmes that enable audiences to play an active role in tackling biodiversity loss and climate change.
  • Actively seek diverse inputs and inclusive approaches, equitable, relevant and impactful ideas for campaigns that put communities first.
  • Learn and pioneer new approaches to support communities with their own campaigns, identifying shared missions with WWF’s own campaigning objectives. Share this best practice with staff, supporters and the network as appropriate.
  • Ensure our community engagement is co-designed with communities and advise other teams on best practice for co-created projects. Maximise opportunities for individuals to support each other and WWF-UK with shared expertise and knowledge.
  • Identify and reach out to active community groups working on issues that intersect in areas relevant to our campaigns or political targets. Lead WWF-UK’s relationships with these groups, identifying areas where our support to them is welcome – e.g. grant-giving, political intelligence sharing, mentoring, event organising or any other area where our support is needed.
  • Seek out and develop collaborations which have the potential to reach and mobilise key audiences, working closely with our Partnerships and Brand teams, to give our campaigns greater reach and impact.
  • Working with Supporter and Communication teams, promote opportunities and public involvement through a range of channels.
  • Plan, organise and deliver public events with, and in support of, community groups, ensuring that health and safety and safeguarding standards are always met.
  • Cultivate and manage a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders and partners, including organisations that are important to our audiences, civil society and other allies that are partners in creating and executing winning campaigns.
  • Work with partners to develop and lead workshops, brainstorms and training sessions. Produce, co-design and disseminate resources for communities.
  • Plan and execute with the support of the delivery teams’ content strategies across social, web and email for community engagement working closely with our communications and fundraising departments.
  • Manage and maintain an online community of campaigning supporters, including managing safeguarding and data protection compliance. Feed into CRM strategic design for active supporters and community groups.
