The National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) is looking for a Policy Adviser to support the development of the UK�s long term infrastructure strategy. This is an exciting time to work at the Commission as it develops its forward workplan, building on the Second National Infrastructure Assessment.�

By joining the National Infrastructure Commission, you�ll be playing a key role in delivering independent advice to the Government on the UK�s long-term infrastructure needs. The Commission is chaired by Sir John Armitt, with nine other Commissioners.

This role sits within the secretariat�s policy team which comprises staff from a range of public and private sector backgrounds and involves working with a mix of policy specialists, analysts and economists. The secretariat is led by our Chief Executive, supported by a Senior Management Team, comprising the Chief Economist, two Directors of Policy and the Chief Operating Officer. Job description

The vacancy will be based in the NIC�s energy team, but there may also be opportunities to work on projects across the Commission�s wider remit.

The energy sector is in transition. Moving at pace from a system reliant on fossil fuels to one powered by low carbon technologies. Energy policy needs to keep pace so that barriers do not become blockers to the changes needed.

In the near term, the successful candidate will help to deliver the Commission�s study on , which was commissioned by the Chancellor at Autumn Statement. There will also be opportunities to shape and work on the Commission�s wider energy policy agenda, building on the distribution study and .

The role requires creative thinking and an ability to develop rigorous analysis to address complex issues. You will be able to work flexibly and collaboratively, building productive working relationships with stakeholders across government and industry, as well as colleagues across the energy team and wider secretariat. You will be comfortable getting into the detail of issues � delving into both quantitative and qualitative evidence � and also able to communicate this clearly and succinctly to a range of different audiences.

As this role will be based in the energy team, knowledge or interest in energy and climate policy is desirable, but not required for the role.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Conduct research that identifies, scopes and supports delivery of policy projects that are aligned to the Commission�s objectives and builds the Commission�s reputation.Analyse and summarise numerical and potentially complex data that will support the Commission�s understanding of the energy sector.Build and manage relationships with stakeholders and use these relationships to shape and influence the Commission�s priorities.Communicate clearly to a range of audiences including presenting your work to Commissioners and external audiences.Produce high-quality written material that succinctly summarises the detailed research conducted.�
