This is an exciting opportunity to join the expanding Education Key Worker team. We are looking to recruit a range of roles to include: 

1 x Senior Education Key worker (12-month fixed term) 6 x education key workers (permanent and 12-month fixed term posts available) 4 x family practitioners (12-month fixed term)


The aim of the Education Key Worker Team is to provide focused support for individual children who are finding it hard to attend school. The team seeks to support the child, their family and the school through building relationships, identifying barriers to attendance and developing an intervention plan that empowers those involved to take positive action.

The ethos of the Education Key Worker service is to achieve positive and lasting improvements and outcomes for children and young people with SEN and additional needs across Devon.

The Education Key Worker team work alongside other agencies to ensure that the right services are available for children and young people and their families at the right time. 

We want to attract and retain talented people who share a vision to have an inclusive society where the importance of school attendance is understood and valued. 

These posts may involve some flexible evening and weekend work.

This is the role: Education Key Worker 

Support children and young people who are struggling to attend school to progress back into school and continue their journey of lifelong learning. Listen to and understand the child’s views about any barriers to attendance, working closely with them on an individual basis, both in their home and in school to overcome these difficulties. Establish and maintain links with the child’s school and other agencies to enable reintegration, via a supported evidence-based intervention plan. Work with a designated number of children and families, within a geographical area covering a cluster of schools. This will involve multidisciplinary working.

 
You will need to have excellent communication skills; both written and verbal and have the ability to build relationships with children, young people and their families, providing support and challenge where needed. Empathy and patience, strong risk assessment skills, and a clear understanding of the challenges young people face about attending school are vital.

You will be working with children, young people and families in their home and educational setting therefore, excellent time management skills alongside an understanding of hybrid working are important. Applicants must hold a full current driving licence and have access to a vehicle for regular business use.
