The new Office for Local Government (Oflog) is a key priority of the Secretary of State. Oflog will help to drive improvement in local government � responsible for a wider range of critical and everyday services � in order to improve outcomes for the public. It will do this by providing authoritative and accessible data and analysis about the performance of local government, so that local leaders can benchmark themselves against their peers and communities can more effectively challenge their authorities.

This is a unique time to participate in establishing a new organisation from the ground up. Whilst supporting the aims of Oflog, successful candidate/s will have an opportunity to work in a nimble organisation and to shape the overall organisation and its culture.

The postholder will design and refine visualisation led content and products, including the Oflog data explorer.

The person in this role will work within the data tools team, as well as with wider Oflog. They will develop designs for new products and content, and use their prototyping skills to develop end-to-end experiences. Products might include interactives, dashboards, and semi-automated narratives.

They will work closely with user research function and the wider team to ensure that experiences meet user needs, and are straightforward to use.

We�re looking for someone who is motivated to support projects with real-world impacts while promoting a positive work culture. They will need strong data manipulation skills and a focus on robust quality assurance methods.

The work is varied, and the ideal candidate will be excited to use their creativity, together with data and insight to influence decisions in a priority area.

As a Visualisation Interaction Designer you'll:

work within the data tools team to develop designs for new data-led products and content, and end-to-end experiencesiterate and improve existing products, ensuring they continue to meet user needs and provide a coherent experienceprototype using a variety of techniques, including dynamic prototypesensure designs reflect digital best practice, and meet accessibility standardsuse a variety of information and evidence, and work closely with user research to ensure designs are validated meeting user needsexplain the rationale behind designs to a variety of colleagues and stakeholders, including technical and non-technical audiences

As a Visualisation Interaction Designer you'll have:

experience in using a variety of prototyping techniques, from low-fidelity mockups to dynamic prototypes in code using HTML and CSSexperience working with associated tools and technologies (eg Figma; Sketch; design systems)ability to create rapid prototypes, including end-to-end experiences to validate design concepts with colleagues, stakeholders and usersfamiliarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles and standardsstrong communication skillset and the ability to justify the rationale behind designs to technical and non-technical stakeholdersexperience of working within cross-functional teams and a familiarity with agile project management techniques
