Joint Child Protection Investigation Team are actively recruiting for permanent position of a CIAO, currently based in Hatfield. The CIAO role is crucial to the assessment team in that the CIAO contributes to the work of the team to ensure that children and families get the right response to the concerns raised within an appropriate timeframe and by the right agency.

The work of the assessment team is to ensure the appropriate response is given to referrals received from partner agencies, professionals and the public. The work is underpinned by the principle of improving outcomes for children and young people through:

effective screening and support, to ensure that families receive the ‘Right Response’ from the appropriate agency at the lowest levels of need without unnecessary delay; to ensure that all contacts get feedback and are supported in appropriately addressing the needs of children and young people.

Your role will be to support the Team Manager to effective screen and progress contacts / referrals that are received in to JCPIT. You will support by making telephone calls to confirm and gather further information from referrers, contact parents and professionals in order to arrange relevant safeguarding meetings. This is a specialist role working jointly with our police colleagues so good communication skills are key. You will support the team to update their case files and where necessary complete genograms, chronologies, and case summaries.

Although there are no specific qualifications required for these roles previous experience in working with children and families would be beneficial. You will be a competent communicator, with the ability to communicate well with members of the public and professionals. You will have good IT skills as this post requires use of different IT systems. You will be empathic and sympathetic to the needs of the children and families you come in to contact with. You will develop your knowledge of local community services in order to offer guidance and signposting. You will use information gathering skills in order to support good outcomes for children and families.
